Nearby Players feature and how it works?

I want to think a good majority of the community doesn’t know this feature exists and i have a few question for those who’ve seen this.

So i was playing with my girlfriends account and we play together sometimes. I’ve never seen this feature until today. I’ve also played with people from my home town and never seen them in nearby players. My question is how is this supposed to work? I’ve met plenty of people in my area through blizzard games some how and thought this was pretty interesting.

Have any of you seen this?
Have any of you made friends using this feauture??
How far is the range of this feature?

I have seen it too, and I think it works when it realizes you and another account that you are friends with appear on the same local network. I have a feeling this design was more intended for the Korean PC bangs if anything.

I’ve been aware of this feautre for a long while. I think it shows you any player that uses the same network as you because there is a player I have blocked that still shows up there. I don’t know if they can see me through there as well but I wish there was an option to disable it or appear as hidden from it.

Don’t have to be friend, just be on the same network.
