problem is that its not JUST 2 ults.
its 2 ults, lazer focused on a single hero to make it more than the sum of its parts. in the end its more like 3-4 ults worth.
but its also not the only combo of that caliber, so im not hating on it just to hate on it. id say similar combos are well known, like gravdragon, emp-bomb, etc.
combos where 1 ability negates the weaknesses of the other, and puts more power on top of it, feel bad.
compare it to… lets say “visor” plus “barrage”.
is that combo on the same level as nanoblade? its 2 ults right, so it has to be the same power level by your logic.
This isn’t a card game, you don’t just assign bulk inputs to outputs. There’s meant to be nuance, interactivity and counterplay.
For instance, a S76 can press Q at the same time a Mercy presses Q. Does the Rein with his shield up care? No. You’re supposed to be opportunistic and make decisions and strategies.
With its current power level and total ease of use on Ana’s side, it’s a bit meaningless. When’s the right time to use it? Whenever it’s available. What’s the counterplay? Hope Zen can press Q, otherwise your only real hope is being able to run faster than he can.
Transcendence can’t outheal a properly used nanoblade. A dash swing combo with nano does 255 damage in an instant. Actual counterplay examples would be riptire, sound barrier, solo grav or nano+pocket on the Genji’s first target.
This is too unrealistic tbh, one missed slash or dash because of things like Moira fade, flashbang, etc is enough to end any chance of continuing to kill through Zen ult. In most cases you are good in Trans, esp for most of the playerbase.
That’s just because often times Genji ult has a higher potential kill count because of the unrivaled mobility he gets when he is chaining kills without being stopped. This can very well make his ult worth more than 2 or 3 ults when combined with something that makes him difficult to stop.
That can be considered unhealthy but without an at least potentially powerful ult he’d be a pretty garbage character. With the hated nanoblade gone will you really have any reason to pick Genji over Doom, Echo, or Tracer? Those heroes would need significant changes at that point unless you seriously want to try buffing Genji again.
You can tell it’s balanced by how pro players in a team that train together for hundreds of hours in the top 1% of the playerbase in skill struggle to deal with nano blade effectively. If these guys find it hard to deal with, surely 6 randos on ladder will find it super easy… Oh wait.
Good thing they don’t and he’s only picked only slightly more often than Junkrat there You’re right though, It’d be a shame if nanoblade was plaguing GM. You’d have to lose all hope.
Whole Hog + Valkyrie is also 2 ults. Doesn’t have nearly as quarter of the threat as Nanoblade. I don’t understand people who justify Nanoblade like this.
No, Nanoblade should not be simply brushed off “It’s 2 ults you should expect to lose this fight”, because beyond the extremely shallow 1+1=2 math you apply, things like synergy and available counterplay have a huge effect on this equation.
Some of which you are addressing:
He has the healthpool of an off tank and slightly less than half the hitbox size, as well as instantaneous movements.
Possible? Yes.
Likely? No.
Most map segments don’t allow such a huge spread such that Genji can’t at least take down 2 targets based on spreading distance alone. And even if they did, it isn’t the best strategy to divide a team everywhere since then key targets become easy picks for the 5 other teammates of Genji.
Sure. You still have to take down the other 340 HP before he decimates your team. Good luck.
Zarya bubbles are great at buying time, but that’s about it. Perhaps time is all you need to minimize the casualties. Then again, Genji could just attack someone else until bubble goes down.
All of that poke damage goes away with Nano’s instant heal. What comes afterwards is very hard to land and highly inconsistent.
Wow, really?
I’m not saying Nanoblade has no counterplay. Before any Genji mains come at my throat, I admit, there are a handful of ways you can stop it. But let’s be honest here, most of those ways are either highly inconsistent and hard to pull off (like landing sleep dart), or very costly (how many other synergies do you think is worth a solo grav?), compared to other ults and synergies in the game.
Then you’re in agreement with most of the Genji players on the forums. It’s a matter of whether or not blizzard is ever willing to touch the character again.
It’s a combo move that cost two ults that if it fails it’s a waste. Some players have no idea the meaning behind that. It’s powerful but at a high cost. Of course your teams gonna have to focus a two ult monster walking around that’s the point it’s a teamwork vs team work ult
Of course it’s better than nothing, but from experience, even plat Genji’s are perfectly capable of killing through Trans. It’s honestly not hard with a bit of practice. It’s just about knowing which targets to go for. Going after a Moira with her fade available would be kinda stupid, but there’s plenty of heroes that are easy targets and with a bit of thought and ability tracking it’s even easier to consistently kill through Trans. Ana, Mercy, Soldier, McCree, Ashe, Junkrat, Hanzo, Widow, Sombra, Zen (without Trans obviously) are all pretty much free one shots as long as the Genji can get to them. There’s a good chance that in every match there’s at least two easy targets.
You said top 1%, which encompasses all of GM iirc, not just OWL players so don’t get snarky with me because I didn’t know that you specifically meant owl and you specifically meant the short period when Genji was playable in OWL. Genji was suddenly “meta” for a short time because he got overbuffed, not because of nanoblade which has been in the game almost entirely untouched since release. Good players do not struggle against nanoblade currently and outside of the 2 months of overbuffed Genji they hadn’t for a long time.
He had it up entirely too often for that time period, and now he’s faded back to being between Junk and Torb in pickrate. Good players are not losing to Genji and his evil nanoblade.
You make it sound like doing all these things are easy to pull off on a character moving faster than your mind can process. You ever seen a pro genji nanoblade? Your whole backline is dead before you even have a chance to react. Try nanoboosting soldier, simply put up your shield and you can counter it. Genji doesn’t need to shoot anything, he will go through shields and melt everyone.
