This game had a long, impressive but yet unwelcome history. That history has different periods of time. We can divide the history by seasons, metas or other things. What period of time has left the deepest impression in you? (Yea GOATS lol).
My choices:
- Perpetual Meantime (Echo’s release - Now)
- “It’s just one mistake, it’s all it will take” (Season 23/Buffed Genji - Nerfed Genji)

It’s just one mistake,
It’s all it will take,
The talk sounds so fake,
About the mistakes we have made!

oh i would say between 2016 and 2021…i really enjoyed this game during that time…

There was a period when Blizz launched their first iteration of CTF but not how it is now. The first iteration was kinda broken and so I ran with a 6 stack where we would utterly dominate it and make it so our enemy couldn’t even escape the spawn, so we would drag out the game.
It was coming home.
After they fixed “ruined” CTF we all kinda drifted apart but the memories will last forever.

I joined the game at the tail-end of the Double-Shield Era. Around that time, they released some Overwatch action figures, so I associate that time with those.
The first Christmas event is the beginning, and it lasted about a solid year and a half before things started getting Dicey I think. The era of Sym 2.0 before they started doing constant tweaks and changes to heroes, and before they added Echo/Hammond/Doom/Sigma/Bap. Even Orisa was a fine addition at the time of launch, I remember she was the first hero I really ‘noticed’ was added to the game; the others had launches but I was not playing the game as frequently at that time and I missed out on a lot of the digital buzz for Sombra and Ana, that was back when I was playing mostly on XBox.
After that though the hero additions started causing huge problems to the gameplay at large, and the matchmaker started giving less good matches consistently.
Then after they added Bap the matchmaker got another change and now they’re literally just trash matches, all the time. It’s either roll or be rolled, there’s not much inbetween; and in a team game, you can’t just play your heart out and compensate for the fact that there are two dead weights on your side and 3 on fire smurfs or super high level accounts on the other side. You just can’t.

Season 1-4 was pretty good
Then they nerfed the crap out of Roadhog
The time I had the most fun was right after the release of sigma. Every hero felt fun and impactful to play.
2017 when Mercy had invulnerability on mass rez. Arcade was becoming settled but DM hasn’t been released yet and I remember playing a ton of 3v3, getting into support with Mercy, learning Ana when she was a throw pick, but sometimes nano won fights rez couldn’t, comp was fun and people actually in voice chat, the stay as team feature actually getting used and going on long winstreaks with teams that just clicked.
For me it’d have to be during Moth Season. I could not believe my eyes and how they let that broken iteration go live. But I still greatly enjoyed playing Mercy during that time
The day Moira was released
it was also a very unhappy time for many at the same time though due to a certain rework ;( Sorry
I joined on New Year’s Day, 2018. Everything felt new and fun no matter what game mode I played. Sombra could still get value. Symm 2.0 was the bane of every Genji I played.
Then Summer Games and the Lucio emote happened and everything fell apart.
“Oh a new support. Bridget.”
“It’s Bri-geet-ah.”
“Huh, okay. HOLY SMOKES SHE’S SO STRONG. How did this get through testing?”
“Tracer bad.”
2017 - 2018 was probably the best period for me. Not because current Overwatch is bad, but because I used to play Ranked with groups. The Overwatch Voice Chat Experience was incredibly fun, and I miss those days…Dive was the prominent meta during that time, so it’s left an impression on me.

The time before OWL was golden memories.
Honestly…From a dps standpoint moth meta was the best because pretty much everything was viable.

2018 was a pretty good year to play, before they trashed tanks because of Sigma and streamer cry-babies.
And 2020-now… the OW on life support. With some of the worst updates they ever made, even worse matchmaking and more and more ppl leaving the game.
Double sniper meta in season 10 because I was a McCree one trick that wasn’t good at and had no desire to learn Hanzo or Widow.
Sombra release - When i’ve bought the game
Dive era - The most unwelcoming meta
Goats era - The most welcoming meta
