So I have asked how to find a main on these forums before and constantly get told to play Mystery Heroes. I have played many games of this and was curious. What stats in Mystery Heroes are the most accurate in determining which hero you are the best with? Would it be win rate or deaths per 10 min or some other stat I don’t know about?
First of all, I don’t think that Mystery Heroes can help you to really find your main. The game is not balanced around weird team compositions.
It caaaaaaan give you a general idea what hero is fun for you personally, or with which hero you are more talented. Sometimes you just feel that you made an impact (if you saved a point by using your abilities well, timed your CDs, or dished out some nice shots or whatever).
Over the years you might also experience that you improved with some heroes when playing Mystery Heroes or that your overall knowledge/understanding has improved.
But I really would not go so far trying to analyze which hero might be the best for you by stats. The only good thing about Mystery Heroes is that its an arcade mode with random heroes. So (almost) noone will blame you for playing a certain hero if you “underperform”.
Just play a little and if there are lets say about 9 heroes which are to your liking (gameplaywise), then you can test them in Quick Play with Role Que.
Maining a single hero isn’t important anyway. You should try to have a broader range of heroes you can play well over time. Ofc noone can expect you to play many heroes well at the beginning.
I personally do not have a main.
Usually it’s how long you live. Living long enough with any hero gets you ult. Ults win games. MH favores patience over aggression. You build your ult and wait for the right moment to use it. The team that dies more often will lose not because they are losing those fights. But because when you die in MH, you lose all your ult charge. In normal play, that doesn’t happen, and eventually you’ll have an ult to use even if you’ve been losing every team fight up to that point.
I wouldn’t focus so much stats…win rate is going to be all over the place in that mode…
k:d ratio is better but it’s also weighted by some heroes just because of how they play…
for example Moira for me is far and away my highest k:d ration cause well…she can’t die…despite the fact that I’m not a Moira main by any stretch
Alternatively you can look at play time as well…the idea there being you’re less likely to die if you know the hero well…
But yeah I wouldn’t put TOO much into MH stats
Yea, use it as fun, get to practice with all the heroes without the stress that you are taking a spot away from someone else in QP.
Yeah… it cannot be true. I have a winrate of over 80% or so… like all my friends. Something’s fishy.
Edit:
Its always going to be Moira, Mercy, Dva, Zarya from my experience.
The thing is that, generally, this:
Leads to this:
For me (250ish hours playing Mystery Heroes), the heroes that ended up being my mains were the heroes that I had the most play time with in that mode. Generally indicating to me that I was a.) better at staying alive with them and b.) enjoyed them enough to do my best to stay alive and keep them. Because anytime I’d get a hero I didn’t like (Doomfist, Genji), I tended to be aaaa lotttttt more aggro and risky and careless so that I would hopefully die and respawn someone else.
So that’s what I’d say, OP. Work backwards from playtime and then pay attention to who you feel like you’re having a good time with and who you definitely just do not like.
Yeah. I didn’t think win rate was a very good indicator simply because if you die a lot and still win, I’m pretty sure that win is added to all the heroes you played as.
Really, you should more so be looking for who you enjoy playing and the style of rather than stats, especially since raw stats provided in game generally arent too helpful in determining performance.
Yes…though if you lose that should also count as losses for everyone…
Which makes me then think that your overall win rate probably is legit…and that number is also high for me… +75%
I have 435 hours I believe. And the heroes I have the most time with are Dva (gets de-meched), Mercy (regen + GA + a more passive play style around corners), Moira (fade), Zarya (reg. shields + self bubble).
I am a horrible Dva. Supports are heavily favored in MH and often decide the course of the game.
I like to play DF, but he is one of my most played ones there because I am so bad with him.
How to find your main:
Play Quick Play Classic (no role queue)
Select a hero. Play them for a few games. See if you like them.
Select a second hero. Play. See if you like them.
Repeat either until you’re out of heroes or find one you really enjoy.
Preferably find one hero from each of the three categories.
Play them until you get good.
Have fun.
I am talking about the overall winrate in the game mode. Not about heroes. I doubt I have a 84% win rate in the whole mode.
Lol not really, infact too many ppl think like you especially if they are on the attacking team only to end up wasting the entire 3min~ doing nothing but slowly poking for ulti charge because they think that their ulti is gonna win fights without forcing the other team to burn theirs.
Best part is they usually die before using it or use it and get no value because its in overtime and the other team is still sitting on 6 ultis since the attacking team have just been poking at choke the whole game to get ulti.
See what you’re describing is someone who doesn’t actually know how to play MH.
As someone who plays MH more than any other game mode, I can tell you that 9 times out of 10, players that manage to keep a character the whole round are the ones that contribute the most towards victory.
There are a multitude of variables that affect the outcome of a MH game. Veteran MH players know how to play most heroes in a way that brings value to their team comp. They recognize the value of a strategic withdrawal when their team starts to lose a fight. They know what characters, if played correctly, drastically increase their chances to win.
There have been times when I lived a long time and failed to get proper value from a character. It usually has more to do with the other team having a very favorable composition. (Lots of heals, lots of tanks, shield, and players fortunate enough to get their mains)
