Mystery Heroes is not "fine" with hero stacking

its fundamentally broken with the stacking…please get rid of it

its not “here you go guys…everyone gets a random hero and go see if you can pull off a match because your team is better”…its “sorry guys but we decided this team over here is winning this round…because well…we just gave them the WIN button”

i just got out of a round on dorado where the attacking team started off with double pharah…ok problematic…but not invincible…we manage to kill one…another one shows up 10 secs later…then a 3rd…did i mention they also lucked into double zenyatta during this?..steamroll all the way the the end of the match where we kill 2 of the pharahs…you guessed it…they come back as double bastion… “fun” according to some people on here…

basically we were never going to win the round because well the game mode isnt set up to be able to deal with hero stacks…and thats just most recent example (you really want more - Game Log - Why Hero stacking and Mystery Heroes dont mix)

i wont go into it because ive covered this extensively in other posts…Mystery Heroes - hero stacking NEEDS to go in particular…but its not even a question of IF it needs to be removed…it NEEDS to go…or at the very least there needs to be an alternate version without the stacking (and i would love to see a comparison of how often the old version would still be played)

They should just rename it No Limits Mystery Heroes and then make a new mode called Mystery Heroes that’s without stacking. Then alternate them daily in the arcade. That way everyone can be satisfied.

I had a match once where the enemy got two Torbs and two Bastions at the same time… super fun

People take mystery heroes seriously??

I had one where the enemy team legit got a Rein, an Orisa, 2 mercys, and 2 bastions. Like… Dude… waht?

For the most part, no. But people want to win for the lootboxes, so it’s sometimes annoying when RNG screws you over a bit.

I actually like mystery hero’s as it is but I can see why other people don’t. You can always make a more balanced version in custom games

Mystery heroes is the true “beer & pretzels” mode. Think of it as a more convoluted way of flipping a coin to see if you win.

first 3 games tonight…triple dva steamroll to end…double dva followed by double zarya…steamroll to end…double bastion def…first point never contested…

yep…its perfectly fine…

(fyi i was on 2 of those winning teams…it was boriiiinnnnnnnnnggg)

I bet you don’t complain when you have this kind of luck happening on your team, and you steamroll and win the match.
Get over it. It’s all random. Your team has just as good of a chance of getting a decent comp as the enemy. Expand your hero pool so you’re more likely to get heroes you’re decent with

and its my most played mode…i play all of them…it has literally nothing to do with the issue

So you have experience dealing with this for almost two years? What’s the problem? They’re not going to change it lol

I really feel like this wouldn’t fix the problem, but just move the goalposts for it. Even without stacked heroes, one team can get a balanced 2-2-2 and the other can have a mishmash of non-synergizing nonsense. One can have a Pharmercy and the other can have no hitscans. One can be perfectly set up for a turtley defense and the other can lack anything that can bust such a defense.

Because the heroes are so asymmetric in their design, and they have such pronounced strengths and weaknesses, any degree of RNG in hero choice can stack the deck for or against a team. Two teams that are relatively evenly matched can still be decided by the RNG, no matter how much balance you force into the mode. Even mirror comps can favor offense or defense, or can happen to fall to people who main the heroes or not.

If a “pseudo-Mystery” heroes mode was added, then fine and dandy, but I have little doubt that such a game mode would be instantly back on the forums with complaints over its lack of balance.

I honestly prefer getting roflstomped by a sea of Torbjorns than I do getting agonizingly full-held by a balanced team that just happens to synergize better than mine did.

If you want a test of team skill, I think QP or comp will always be the best options for that. MH is in the arcade; it is already a very low-stakes gamemode, and IMO it might as well be silly since there’s no way to make it fair.

I did until I decided to stop playing the game entirely.

I’m fine with the stacking but the mode needs to at least give a team 1 DPS, 1 Tank and 1 Healer all the time.

Being all tank and not a single healer or DPS was the worse experience I had on the mode and we didn’t get a healer for almost 2 mins. That led to an awful one sided stomp.

Also, I did notice that in some games the rotation of the heroes that I get are usually the same. Example, I start of as Sombra and died twice and I’m Sombra again. Its weird.

Alt-f4 and do something constructive, like watching paint dry.

take it in a heart beat over current version…

thats a step in an a different direction…not what im looking for…but still sounds better than current version

again an alternate version works (which jeff has spoken to)…but the hero stacking itself is not something that the game mode can adequately handle

But… That’s the point isn’t it? Your team could respawn with 2 Dvas, A soldier, Zen, Widow, Ana.

It surprises me how often one team goes “GG RNG” 3 seconds into the match and leaves. Just try and if you die, well you get a new comp?

Mystery heroes is the most unpredictable. Just stay and finish the match.

It’s challenging and teaches you how to play in a different way. If you really wanna stay alive it won’t matter if you have no tank/healer. You’re gonna learn to mitigate the damage you take and make smarter moves. Learn where the health kits are, Wait to regroup, etc.

2/2/2 would be boring and just bring that atmosphere of “Dps 1 you suck go die so someone else can dps”.

Yeah I understand what you mean, certain heroes getting stack can be a huge pain.
