My Username Randomly Changed

Briefly DCed at the OW2 main menu. Upon reconnecting, My name randomly changed from CoolUsername#11187 to InkyWhale#14533. :rofl: This ever happen to anyone else?

Yeah uhā€¦ Iā€™d take that up with support lol. Thatā€™s very strange. I would guess people reported your name and it chose some default one as a replacement, but I thought it defaulted to ā€˜Playerā€™, unless they changed that policyā€¦

If there was a report associated, you should have a free Bnet change to claim on your account. If this is not the case ā€¦ someone might have accessed your account and used the one you had?

Yeah I would ask a GM to check the timeline and when did this happen. Thats weird.

Lol no and Iā€™m hoping it doesnā€™t.

Especially when they take a pretty cool username and turn it into a decidedly not very cool at all username.

Good luck getting it back though! Keep us posted in case it happens to anyone else.

Do you have a console acc?

Upon merge, names can be changed automatically . And if you have no acc name on console yet, you got a random one I supposeā€¦

So I contacted support and it turns out a stack (presumably) false reported my name lol. When that happens, thereā€™s an automatic name change. Theyā€™re going to revert it for me but they said if this ever happens again, thereā€™s nothing they can do. Guess false reporting is pretty effective after all. :sweat_smile:

EDIT: just noticed that instead of #11187 Iā€™m now #11702. :persevere: Oh well.

Considering the bug theyā€™re currently dealing with that forces players to use a ā€˜titleā€™ while restricting the option to remove itā€¦ it wouldnā€™t surprise me if this is another mishap on their part.

Although, have the name completely change to something else is interesting. Do you have a secure password/MFA enabled on your account?

I opened a ticket. My name was false reported as being inappropriate. :joy: Was probably the 3-stack that rage quit on Numbani when I said, ā€œWe canā€™t spend so much time in the street, we gotta push.ā€

Weā€™ll at least we know that these can work. Iā€™m honestly surprised I havenā€™t been false reported with how efficiently I tilt people with Dva voicelines.

Yeah, Iā€™m glad I didnā€™t have to pay for a name change but itā€™s pretty shocking how easy it is to get someoneā€™s account actioned. Seems it requires very few reports to force a name change. Very exploitable.

Can you post a printscreen with an extract of the message they sent you, pleaseā€¦ ?

While I do believe that your username was randomly changed, Iā€™m not sure any Blizzard employee would ever use the term ā€œfalse reportingā€ in one of their messages. They hardly ever acknowledge their mistakes, nor would they openly admit their system is so bad that false reporting became a thing.

It would be nice if you could copy-paste the exact lexicon / wording they used when they replied to you.
