My thoughts on mercy

Hey. I know you guys got tired of seeing this mercy threads but I’m not a person who spams on forums daily and I just wanted to share my thoughts about the current mercy.Btw I have approximately 750 hours on her and I know all iterations of her. So let’s get started.

I think major problem with mercy is having the most powerful non ultimate ability in the game on cooldown and being nerfed for that reason. Before proposing a solution I also want to compare her with other main healers(not sure if she still is a main healer though). Ana has like 85 hps including reloading time and moira has 80 aoe heal on resource meter. Comparing to these two mercy has 50 single target hps. She feels very lackluster in terms of healing, unable to keep the tanks alive and doesn’t have the ultility other healers have during mid fight. That’s the second problem for me. So I looked up to overbuff to see what differs good mercy from bad one and saw that the main difference is ability to utilize damage boost.

Now for the solution part. I came up with the idea to rework how mercy’s beam works. First idea is adding a resource meter to encourage people to use healing beam and damage boost beam evenly. If you’re healing healing meter drains and if the person you’re boosting deals damage the damage boost meter drains. In order to charge healing meter you have to damage boost and vice versa.

Another idea is adding charge system like zarya’s. So according to how you utilise damage boost you heal more or less.

My idea for the first problem is making rez only avaible during valkrie and giving mercy another ability that she can use in mid fights(perheps a cc immunity, very needed these days). This way valkrie would have more depth in terms of when to use it.

These are the solutions I came up with. Thank you for reading.

Sounds fun!

Have my like.

The only problem with damage boos is that it heavily depends on the boosted player (I am hinting at accuracy, thus efficiency of boosting)… But then again, all Mercy’s kit aside of her pistol relies entirely on her teammates.

Damage boost beam doesn’t drain as long as your teammate doesn’t do any damage so it can stay connected indefinetely . It doesn’t any different from how it is like now. Same for healing bar, it can stay connected indefinetely on fully healed teammates.

Not draining and staying connected indefinitely is inefficiency – you are doing nothing. This is the kind of gameplay for Mercy which gets a lot of critics from both pro- and contra-Mercy fans. =)

Draining even when you healing fully healed allies would prevent mercy from pre healing. And it would make damage boost pretty much useless. There is no way for you to know when your teammates is going to land a shot. It doesn’t require more skill this way it just make beams weaker.
