My rank decreased although i got 7 wins

Hello. I am ‘금빛바지 #319842’ in overwatch 2.
I got 7 wins but my rank has changed from ‘gold 4’ to ‘gold 5’.
This is unbelievable and I can’t understand this situation.
Check this please.

How many did you lose?

Getting 7 wins or 20 losses UPDATES your rank. It is not indicative of an actual change in rank.
When you achieve 7 wins or 20 losses you will not necessarily rank up or rank down; the game just visually updates your rank icon so you can see where you are placed currently.
I would assume that the reason you de-ranked is likely because at the time of achieving your 7th win, you had also received a number of losses (probably greater than 7) since your last rank update.

I didn’t count it sorry. But I am sure it wasn’t over 7.

after you achieve 7 wins, its not a RANK UP - its a rank ADJUSTMENT. you could go up, you could go down, or you could stay the same.

stop associating 7 wins with a rank up expectation and you will find more enjoyment.

If what you say is right, I think this is a real problem that we have to worry the de-rank even if we cannot see lose numbers on the statistics.

tbh, if the person has a positive winrate, they should be able to rank up. Otherwise, the old system is better and more transparent.

Not everyone can expect the game to be accurate in judging their personal performance, considering the scoreboard is whack and doesn’t tell the whole story.

i disagree. what if…and i cant stress the what if part enough…they were grouped with higher ranked friends?

their enemies will also have higher rank players.
Unless their friends are smurfs.

not as high tho, and there lies the difference

How do you know?
If you’re consistently being the only constant factor in your team and you consistently having a high winrate, you don’t think you deserve a rank up?
That’s how the old system always work.

New system lacks transparency, new players got place in high rank because of their new accounts and played terribly. While old ow1 players dropped from diamond to bronze and unintentionally smurf.
We have a mismatched mixing of all skill levels in every rank, this is why I don’t trust “performance base” ranking system.

I’ll take a Widow that has a low dps but able to get consistent picks more than a dps that farm tank all day to inflates their dps score.

math. its called averages.

again, how do you know that the enemy average rank will be lower than (let say) me and my friend’s average rank?

If I’m duo with someone, I’ll get match against duo as well. It’s what I noticed. So what make me and my friend different than the guy and his friend on the other team?

ok, lets say you are LOW ranked. you are ranked with the max possible. lets say theres a group of 3. the other two are 999 sr above you each. thats how.

I have to generally agree with this statement.

Then they rank up. Once their friends aren’t around, they de-rank. At least that’s how I’ve understood the system. Has it changed? Is it actually based on some in-game metrics like K/D/A now? As far as I know it’s still plain ELO, but I could definitely be wrong.

no my fren, it is simply more based on individual agency. vs simple win/loss

If that’s the case, it should be easy for people to abuse the system, but im pretty sure that’s not the case.
They will match similar elo player as you and whoever you’re playing with.
In the end, it’s the same rank.
I do play with friends, but I’m mostly a solo q. I honestly cannot tell the difference between with or without friends, but at least I can communicate with friends. Even with that, the win/lose rate is still similar even when im solo q.
