I’m one of the people who was hyped about MR even before the alpha. I didn’t make it into the alpha but I played the beta and I thought I’d leave OW for good.
I have been playing this game almost non stop since release and my opinion changed a bit over the course of the last week.
Yes, the characters are real fun, the game in general is fun… but I can’t get over a few things that really turned me down in this game.
They said they want to keep this open queue. I know lots of people love the idea of being able to flex, but in reality a very small percentage of people flexes. I’m so tired, really tired, as a strategist main, to play with 5 dps. I also get that in this game you cannot really main a hero unless you stack with people, but being a strategist I’ve also been put in games with other strategist mains… and we ended up being 3 strategists, or I had to play another role. It doesn’t really make sense to me not having an option to select a role if we want to play this game seriously.
Bots. O-M-G. I didn’t know that bots were automatically added in quickplay matches, but now it makes so much sense. It’s become so clear that some players are bots, no human could behave like this. They even give you a like at the end of the match, similarly to the bots in OW that write “gg”, no matter how horrible the match was. It breaks my nerves. I don’t want to play with/vs bots, ever. This is truly horrible. You may wonder why I don’t play competitive… I’m thinking about it now, even though my idea was to start playing completitive when I felt ready. I like to play comp when I truly know a hero. But it seems that you should play comp in this game even if you’re learning a hero if you really don’t want to play with/vs bots.
Fps advantage. I don’t know how not EVERYONE is talking about this. Hello??? How can they code a game so that the rate of fire or your speed of movement depends on your fps? It’s shocking. This alone makes the game completely casual. You cannot really take a game like this seriously anymore.
There are things that, if they ever happened in OW, they would be breaking news, everyone would rant, there would hundreds of thousands of negative reviews on steam and it would be the end of the company. Let’s also add the censorship in the chat… it’s a chinese game, I get it. But it sucks.
I’m not saying I will stop playing Rivals altogether, but I don’t understand how people can say this game is the end of OW. Are they serious? Whenever I open YouTube I get tens of videos like this. I’m shocked. This game is casual fun, but it has so many fundamental flaws that if anyone thinks it can replace OW, especially in the competitive scene, they are just blind.
Open queue is a good thing and I hope they stick with it for a long time. They need to go the opposite direction of OW and be a living example of what a fun game is. They came out the gate with open queue 6v6 with hero bans, and its been a blast, so much so that between MR and POE, steam was having trouble on their back end keeping up with demand. Bellular made a video about it.
Instalock dps only players are the ones who will suffer more losses overall. Their choice.
Bots only happen in quick play after x number of losses .Its not exactly 2, I’ve had loss streaks in qp and would still see real players on other team. Bots do not exist in competitive. Is it weird? Yeah, does it matter? No, its QP.
UE5 is deeply problematic for game optimization for a multitude of reasons, beyond the scope of any convo here. I would have liked it better if they used their own inhouse engine but that takes an enormous amount of money and restricts the talent pool you can hire immediately to begin developing since UE is sadly becoming really close to an industry standard.
OW has an Open Queue that a very small percentage of players uses, because we all know the game works better with Role Queue. I don’t get how people who probably don’t even play Open Queue now are all supporting Open Queue?
I really don’t know, I have a feeling that they are more common than we think. But the thing that they exist alone and we don’t know clearly how this works for me is already a huge issue. I don’t want to play with/vs bots ever, period.
RQ has been in for so long that the design of the game has been done with the understanding of that format. With the ingredients you have, you get the cake you’ve baked.
How does open queue work when you deliberately pump up tanks for a 5v5 format? You can’t, its overcooked and just because blizzard screwed it up doesn’t mean an open queue concept is bad and I won’t entertain that idea when the current competitor has it and the players do no want a role queue there.
I’ll say this kindly - yes, you don’t know. Bots are incredibly easy to detect in kill cams because their aim is extremely robotic. There are no bots in competitive, at all. The QP bots are just a dark pattern thing to give a totally unaware player a win in QP after getting absolutely stomped, player retention is important.
I still think a lot of people are in for a rude awakening sooner or later. I felt so many problems in that game since day 2 that it’s killed my want to play it. Then again, since I actually enjoy 5v5 role queue, I didn’t need some new shiny beacon of hope to lift my spirits.
I give it a month unless those problems are fixed, starting with how utterly trash that game runs.
From what you say you confirm my idea that this game is really oriented to the average ranting OW player who complains he loses all matches. Maybe those people will accept the idea that they finally won a game even if it’s against bots. I can’t. I think this mostly works for children, anyone else with some more logic won’t take a win against bots as fair.
Bot lobbies in QP confirms to you that MR is oriented to the average ranting ow player who complains he loses all matches?
You’re off kilter and you know it lol.
Just play competitive and stop pretending like quick play is taken seriously when its good for learning some basic mechanics on a hero you’ve never played. Bots should be very rare unless you’re getting stomped over and over, in which case you’ve got a ways to go before having to consider the finer points of competitive balance. I don’t like bots either but the kind of person who only plays QP probably isn’t very good either, and most don’t actually pick up on if its a bot lobby.
Are they not valid customers? Little billy on his xbox with a bowl of cheerios next to him doesn’t know the difference but gets to feel like hes poppin’ off every once in a while - that doesn’t affect me as I’ll play comp, and it shoudn’t affect you either.
Yeah, FPS being tied to some mechanics is a problem, obviously, but above 120fps everything is working as intended. This isn’t some esoteric issue like in a very very old game where higher fps means higher rate of fire etc.
Cause a lot of engines use fps for movement even doom eternal does this so playing on nightmare in switch at 30 fps is easy by a lot than on a full power pc at 600 fps.
They have horrible optimization though, and once community fixed it a bit with engine.ini they locked it .
So now you have to use another config but not as good as before.
So you think it’s fair that if you 1v1, let’s say, another Wolverine, he will always win even if you do exactly the same as him just because he has more fps?
As someone that thinks RQ RUINED OW, this is a pretty good thing, lol.
Well, netease is a mobile game developer. Mobile video games are FULL of bots. I’m not surprised that MR is also. Personally, I hate playing “PvP” games against bots, but, I wouldn’t expect anything less from this chinese cash grab company.
this is one of those points that make me understand how much marvel rivals is aiming for the “don’t worry overwatch has disappointed you, now we are here to do what it doesn’t do😇” factor. it may be an advantage in some details (highlights, moments, information sheets, etc.) but it is very noticeable that it underestimates the many whys that pushed overwatch to give itself rules while the roster increased. even the map rules are actually a not very innovative approach if you take away the “destructible elements in the map” feature. but it is also too early to judge it, I would say that it will only be in 6 months that we will see the consequences of this enormous freedom of composition.
i totally agree with this point, and i’ll also add that it’s a hugely pathetic way to not take responsibility for the development of a game that is so free in its composition rules but easily transgressed in not following the good and needs of the team. i’m a die-hard main dps? i’ll just learn to do dps with the false perception of learning something about how to coordinate. and in fact, it only teaches me that others have to choose the responsibilities that i don’t want to take, therefore it uneducates the way i could react differently against a team of real people.
it really makes the perception of learning the game to be able to face comp mode pathetic, and it’s too cowardly to deny that maybe i should do better next time. it’s an unwanted handicap, it’s shameful and it makes Rivals a product for kids (sorry, but it’s true).
this is a problem due to the unreal engine being forced to imitate a game mechanic that requires as much fluidity as possible. it is a ptogram that can have already competent developers, but a native graphics engine is always ideal for multiplayer-based fps (overwatch and valorant).
i suppose they can improve the optimization over time… but paradoxically it requires more effort than a dedicated game engine to be taught by developers who have a school education with unreal. i would give them time on this, but they must hurry to solve it, if they want to take advantage of the current attention of players who over time could get tired of the poor fluidity. especially depending on the maps, / areas with vapors, really very embarrassing.
Is unreal engine but heavily customised like finals and also smart enough to use low resource assets instead of heavy ones like rivals knowing how ue handles stuff.
I am sorry but if you are playing OW/MR on a computer that cannot even run 60fps properly then you shouldn’t be playing a game this powerful. Just play Valorant.
