I was under the assumption i could play the old characters as an old ow1 player, why are they locked?

Im in the same boat. Basically a f2p now everythings gone not sure whats going on.
This has also happened to me.
I have (as far as I am aware from my quick check) all of my cosmetics, I have the new hero, but all of my characters are locked behind the challenges.
in a similar boat my account on na (i play on na) has all characters locked however on Eu i have all characters. hoping to be able to go back to na also charactewrs won’t unlock on na.
Same issues here, have all the cosmetic’s I had in 1 and now most of the heroes are locked away under the challenges. Its also saying that I’m on a different version of overwatch then my friend. We’re starting to suspect that for whatever reason, the game is seeing me as a new player even though I’m not.
all characters locked, literally can only play 3 in ranked. wtf

Edit: I’ve had this happen to me a couple times now, but it seems to be quickly resolved (at least for me) by just closing the game and re-opening. You can quickly check by going into the “Heroes” menu and verify whether any heroes (minus Kiriko) have the padlock icon next to them.
No most i did was merge my account Im on Xbox in case I jump to PC.
Replying to myself, disconnecting my playstation account seems to have fixed it for me, now have access to all heroes minus Kiriko. And unfriending and readding my friend is letting us play together.

Same issue here. Retained all cosmetics but characters locked
I had all of the toons unlocked earlier today. Took a break and logged back in and most of my toons are lock behind something. I have over 1000 hours in OW1 and have the battle passes.
