If I absolutely refuse to communicate in any sort of way with other players for comp matches (both chat and mic), will I be punished? or am I free to do so? Only playing the heroes I want and muting both chat/mic whilst playing the game how I want to (but genuinely trying to win and not trolling).
I’m curious because in other game, I remember a player being punished for “not communicating with team” and it brought lot of attention from other players of how wrong the punishment was. And I want to avoid toxicity in chat and want to encourage myself to start using mute option but just a little concerned.
I don’t see why you would be. You can mute and ignore players all you want, there is no rule against it. They can try to report you out of anger over it but how would they know? It doesn’t even seem like a reportable reason anyway.
That’s what I was thinking but the player I was talking about from other game received so many reports that a GM actually did punish him. I know all actions are looked into personally before it is carried out but I just want to make sure something like that should not be happening if i were to do the same
I wouldn’t worry about it. I never use VC or in text chat (with the exception on glhf) and I haven’t gotten banned.
You can’t be banned for not communicating. People might report you for it, and sometimes that can lead to a false ban that you’ll need to contact Blizzard about, but its not a bannable offense.
I see. That does seem a little fishy to me and makes me think he is doing something that is receiving attention of players to get reports. Either it is a coincidence and the system automatically banned him for no reason and he should probably investigate or appeal with a ticket; or they are misleading you and were actually being drawn into toxic conversations or behaviors, and regardless of fault, even when they decide to cease those activities and mute to stop the conflict, the other person reports anyway. Regardless, I wouldn’t worry too much, some people play muted all game, as long as you work together and use other methods to communicate like the wheel (which I do and it works sometimes) you should be alright.
alright, it sucks that enough reports suspend a player automatically even if the player haven’t done anything wrong but oh well. I was hoping all account actions were looked into personally before an actual judgment was given
It’s unfortunate, but Blizzard is very lazy/cheap when it comes to account actioning (and IIRC they actually laid off the last members of the team dedicated for it recently). So they just rely on the automated report features and call it a day. Hopefully it will change come OW2.
