An Overwatch Legendary on it’s own is $19
Using recent solo legendary skins as examples, bundled “new” skins (with no attached recolors) can vary significantly. Like 22-26.
Anything above that and there’s likely another skin thrown in there.
Marvel “legendary” skin equivalents (for whatever reason…) seem to be their “epics”
Often full outfit model changes. These skins are individually priced at $14-$16
($16-18 if you want the bundle which has a highlight intro)
Marvel Rival’s “Legendary” skins are individually priced at $20.
but are often attached to more expensive bundles at like $24-26.
These skins can potentially have some added VFX, voicelines, and ability sounds. They seem pretty varied in quality tho ( like how not all Overwatch legendary skins change those things.)
But they do seem to crossover more with Overwatch mythics in the sense that the VFX and voice changes are close to that of Overwatch mythics. Although these legendaries don’t have customization.
I’m just noticing that though it’s not by much, marvel Rivals is looking less expensive than Overwatch.
$10 gets you like 8 skins from the battlepass alone in OW, lol.

Amount you have to spend to play and enjoy either game: $0. Outside of hardware, internet, electricity and housing expenses, of course.
I haven’t spent a dime on Rivals, and haven’t bought anything in Overwatch since the Bebop collab. Still having a good time with both.

Yeah but that’s not what the thread is about. Just comparing prices, but glad we got the “you don’t need to spend” comment out of the way so early.
$5 gets you like 5 skins from the battle pass in marvel rivals (for season 0)

Doesnt that make Marvel Legendary skins/bundles more expensive? Im confused…
I’m still not willing to pay 20 bucks for one skin. It could be my favorite character on top of my favorite character… still no. It won’t make a difference but the prices are ridiculous.
Imagine buying skins…rip. I bought OW 8 years ago for somewhere around $50 and thats the last penny I would ever give Blizzard and I wouldn’t even contemplate giving netease money.
Their epics are more like legendaries tho
Hmmm Ok. Would that make their Legendaries somehow above OW’s Legendaries?
So the pricing is pretty much the same and sucks in both games. Well, the industry as a whole has awful skin pricing imo, but people are willing to pay, so it won’t change.

Yes, I specify why in the main post.
And you can see your own skin!! This makes skins much more desirable than in OW. As for the price, I think there is an MCU fee on some of them, that they have to make a bit more expensive, just for some licensing I think.
Its expected that most people dont buy skins from the shop, but those who do, will bring them a lot of money.
It should be $10 for 10 skins season one with a return of 600 paid currency and 600 freemium currency. Technically the Mahvel pass is better value. The cheap stuff in Mahvel is better value across the board. The expensive stuff is less value relative to Overwatch. That’s basically how it works.

I dont play MR but i would be more likely to buy skins in that because its 3rd person. That alone adds value. Sometime 3 months from now ill realize i still have xmas skins on in ow.
I dont like monetization but i dont judge it either. I care about the game itself and the fact i can play either 100% free is amazing as someone gaming since atari.
I will say not in regards to blizzard or netease, but to all those companies spending millions on advertising in ads i skip as soon as i can or just annoy me. Offer skin packs as sponsership. Not crossover porche buy this type. But 25ish years later i STILL remember discovery sponsored my gears of war map expansion pack. The opportunity of marketing and building brand loyalty is being completely missed in the current era of f2p games.

But aren’t bundles illegal?
Or have we moved on from that stupidity from 2022 now.
Seems like pricing for both games is basically identical (not a coincidence btw - Rivals was originally going to charge for heroes until Overwatch announced that heroes would be free again). Anyone trying to give one the advantage over the other is just coping.
You left out the biggest difference that makes Marvel Rivals cosmetics cheaper.
More ways to earn in-game currency doing both challenges, hero challenges, and even answering surveys.
I earned currency in game to buy Hulk grey recolor skin. Did that in under 10 days.
Ow 2 it takes me a season and another half season to earn to grind enough premium currency to get a BP.
The real comparison starts Friday when we see if you can play Marvel Rivals enough to earn the next BP for season 2 by just playing the game.

I am pretty sure Battle Pass is lattice only (the gold premium currency) whereas you grind for… Um, credits? I do not remember the name. The blue ones are freemium. So, nah. It is actually technically worse because you need to pay for the pass to get the return unlike Overwatch.
It’s designed to get you to spend real money compared to Overwatch where the design is to get you to drop your freemium currency and be forced to spend if a skin you want comes out.

Hey, whatever argument gets OW to finally lower skin prices to $5-10 a piece is a win for everyone.

theres a clear difference, prefer 1st or 3rd person view. Thats usually what it boils down to. At least in my circle.
I meant in terms of pricing/monetisation. There are pretty clear gameplay differences - first/third person being the most obvious one, yes.
If competition between the two results in better prices in both games (and it has so far) then everyone wins.
