Something that’s interesting about MR vs OW is that it’s the battle of casual vs competitive.
There’s glaring balance issues in MR but it doesn’t matter because the devs have confirmed they’re not interested in competitive balancing, they’re interested in focusing on fun, or in other words hero fantasy.
So, this brings an interesting question into the mix. What will prove to be more popular? competitive focus or casual focus?
The reason I personally find this so interesting is because for years high elo streamers, youtubers and pros have preached that competitive focus is best and the devs listened.
But, is it actually? I’m very curious to see how this will play out.
I will say for myself, MR isn’t perfect, no game is, but I enjoy the hell out of it much more than OW currently.
I can’t speak much about MR as its a TPS and therefor less in my interesst as overwatch.
Banns surely will be a nice addition, I wonder how they affect reports. Like it encourages communication, I hope they add a way to use system voicelines, like right click on genji during bann phase to tell my team: Destrolock wants to bann: Genji
Like I can already smell: Player X reported because they banned my main on my team! Or didn’t confirm my bann request.
I don’t think the report system is as broken as OW’s, I could be wrong, we’ll see how it goes, but I don’t see people getting banned for no reason like so many claim in OW.
Not exactly sure what to read from that. We certainly know it is the bigger game on steam, as majority of pc players on ow are on the platform it existed on for what, 7 year prior to launching on steam?
If we are looking at trends, rivals lost over 55% of its playerbase in 2 months. Much higher percentage than ow lost after rivals came out. I’m sure it will go higher when the new season comes out, but for how long, how many will come back, who knows.
It just shows that they have been losing players every day for the past 3 months.
The OP asked, “which is more popular,” well, when they are losing players every day and OW2 is steady, I think you can draw your own conclusion from that.
It’s a pretty good system, before bans start you have a selection phase, choose who you’d like to play and then the ban phase, vote for who you’d like to get banned, most picked is banned, if everyone picks different, it’s random choice.
Imagine if Blizzard did a 180 and embrace the fan service side of MR.
Imagine if the ignore the people screaming “PROBLEMATIC!!!” (Like what the heck is the problem in the first place?)
Imagine if they made the heroes hotter than they are now?
Heck, have Mei rock a traditional form fitting Chinese dress that shows off her curves and make an offline mode for preserving then hey I’ll put money aside for OW (1/2).
I’m curious to see how bans will be done in OW. I agree we should get a phase where we get to pick who we want to play, I honestly imagine it’ll be basically the same as MR.
It would definitely help sell skins, I think Blizzard want OW to be family friendly though, which make sense.
MR has already established to have thirsty skins of the two and it’s clearly working for them.
I mean, ow is still down since rivals came out, by a smaller percentage. It could be argued rivals is still more popular, as we cannot see an exact number comparison, even if the downward trend is concerning.
Guess we shall see what the upcoming seasons do for both games.
Well that strat doesn’t seem to be going so well as MR has lost well over half its January players if we go by the steam charts everybody was so eager to flaunt when it launched
Yeah you want the game to be fun, but over time people start caring more and more about competitive aspects
I’m imagining Overwatch going full throttle on fan service and I don’t like it. How blatant MR is with skins like Malice makes their game that much more tacky.
90% of the internet is already dedicated to that sort of stuff. It would be neat if we didn’t try and make everything goonbait.
It’s not like it’d make Overwatch any better, anyway, since it has no effect on gameplay. If you really want Mercy dressing up like that then just make use of Google. Bam, you get what you want and I get what I want.
