Hi. Iv played the game for 4 years on ps4 and wanted to try playing the game on pc. Main reason being, controllers are hard to aim with mouse being more accurate. I was expecting some issues adapting to the controllers but WOW. I find it so awkward mixing the mouse and the keyboard. In particular the movement keys being so close to each other and close to ehe E and Q etc.
Is this just a temporary thing and should I persevere or stick with ps4!?
Has anyone done a similar switch and got any tips to help me?
I am a pharah main btw.
Thanks
They key layout is very standard for FPS games so if you learn that you have learned to play any other fps.
As for tips: Keep your 3 fingers on AWD and you will never lose them. From there, you just move one up or down for S, Q and E
Just use your controller for movement and your mouse for aiming. It’s a little awkward at first, but is actually the superior way to play as thumbsticks movement is much more efficient than keyboard movement. You’ll need to re-bind/relearn a few abilities, and you’ll need a mouse with at least 5 programmable buttons, but as a console immigrant myself, learning to use the keyboard was way too difficult after 20 years of using controllers for movement. This hybrid system is a good solution.

1 - don’t play ok high sens. I know lower sens is gonna feel brainrot slow at first but you need to be able to move ur arm as well as ur wrist, I started playing on 1600 X 6 and now I’m 800 X 5 .
2 - Make sure you give yourself enough room to move ur mouse comfortably I know this sounds obvious but it took me a while before I realised how bad my mouse space is. Pretty much moved my keyboard to the other side of the table so I can give myself as much room as needed + more
3 - practice. You’re gonna need to be able to press keys like it’s Second nature
When I first started I put my keys in so many weird places. In the end settled with the default key bindings except I had melee on mouse button 5
You’re gonna get pissed off at your own gameplay the first couple of weeks hell maybe even months but trust me you wont be able to go back to ps4 after u get used to KBM
Was awkward for me at first too but you get used to it. Just have to wait for the muscle memory to kick in. After a couple weeks go back to console and you’d see why pc feels much better.

You are holding yourself back by keep using the controller instead of practicing the keyboard so ofc it will be “difficult”.
It really doesn’t take long to learn it.
I went from PS4 to PC too! Though I was maining auto lock sym so the transition was easy lol.
I strictly play only on PC now and I love seeing how much better I’ve gotten at aiming over the years.
Welcome to the pc master race btw
How am I holding myself back? I can move better than you with my controller and I can aim just as well as you with my mouse.
The only downside is typing is annoying since I have to move my hand off my mouse, but I don’t type in the middle of matches anyway, so not a huge loss.
And this is subjective. I’m in my 30s, learning anything will take me longer than it’ll take some teenager. Plus I can still play on my couch so it’s more chill and less stressful on my neck and back.
Keyboard is superior for movement. It is instant and doesn’t have acceleration.
You have also more control over the direction because you can use 2 separate fingers for each axis.
I am at min 30s as well and I have started with old school consoles until I got a PC and I never touched a controller again even for classic games.
Also I fail to see the point of using a PC on a couch. I do ALT+Tab to other things while gaming at all time like typing this for example.
If this is your first PC game then I understand the issue, it takes a bit of time to get used to the control, but once you do you’ve unlocked most of the game controls on PC.
Overwatch doesn’t have that many keys to begin with either so it’s easy to get the hang of it. If you want a challenge on the key front, try mapping out all abilities in an MMO like FF14
Eh, the macro movements that controllers allow plus the overall steadiness of movement they provide, I feel, have a slight advantage over keyboard movement. But to each their own.
I just bought the PC, don’t have a monitor, only a tv. PC was expensive enough in mid-2021. It does PC things, where I sit when I use it makes no difference.
The short answer is: You’ll get used to it.
My tip is to find your anchor position. Thumb on space, pinkie on shift, ring/middle/index on A/W/D respectively is a common one. All the other keys you need surround that layout.
You can also cheat a little by putting some keyboard functions onto your mouse, assuming your mouse has extra buttons.
I recently started playing on PC after like 1800 hours on PS4 and I’m level 71 and I think it’s a learning process. I’ve been playing a lot of Ana and I noticed my aim has gotten a lot more consistent and reliable. It’s gonna feel bad at first, but once you get used to it, I think it’s more fun than playing on PS4.
If you have a mouse with side buttons, put as many abilities on the mouse possible and leave your left hand only for wasd. Sprint and dashes are always mapped to my big side button, and reload on my small side button. This is how i play most pc games now. I left my ult button on the keyboard so i dont accidentally press it.
It isn’t just grinding to get good. Do it every day and you will get used to it eventually.
Maybe go for a lower sens as well.
For keyboard: WASD is believe it or not the easy part, its trying to remember where all the buttons which is the hard part if youve never used it for gaming before it looks entirely different from normal use.
For Mouse: Go in practice range for say 20 - 40 minutes a day and practive headshots, if you cant headshot naturally adjust your sensitivity up or down.
This isnt to say practice range isa the only place to practice, you need to play real games as well.
Practice range = Adjust sens
Quickplay = Muscle memory
I personally got to a point where the only shots i would land on widows in WidowHS lobbies were HS, i feel like my aim does what i need it to do though it has regressed due to lack of practice and thumb injury which isnt a factor anymore.
Some heroes are apparently easier on console. The WR skill rating is in hands of a Pharah console player (5k), but I don’t know if it should make that much of a difference
It’s definitely a steep learning curve initially moving from ps4 to of but it is quite easy after ~1 month.
My recommendations:
-
Tweak your sensitivity in game to what feels about right, but try to bring it down over time - I started around 32000 edpi but slowly brought it down to 8000. The range for overwatch is usually 4000-12000 so try to aim for that region eventually
-
If you have mouse buttons, try having your abilities on there instead of shift and e, as it is often much easier to get used to. Also moving crouch from ctrl to shift can make things a lot easier on your pinky
I made the same transition and hated keyboard, too, it’s awkward that movement is across 4 keys limiting you to 8 movement directions, and then you have to hit ability keys with the same fingers you use for movement, that dance of fingers is straight up unintuitive nonsense and in that respect controller made more sense to me.
So instead I hooked up a PS3 Nav controller wand and use that in my left hand instead of keyboard, all the finesse of using console controller for movement in my left hand with controller trigger and face buttons for abilities, while still getting PC mouse aim in my right hand (I use a Razer Overwatch mouse, which has two extra side buttons for play that I have other abilities mapped to).
Been playing this way on my laptop for years now and burned through a few Navs this way, still enjoying myself. There’s some setup involved though (need to install a program to get it all running), I explained the setup somewhere on here before if you’re interested I can look it up again.
