bless you devs, bless you.
I honestly think this plays a tiny part as to why tank players suffer the most, they don’t get to abuse how quickly their models can move because they’re built like Spongebob trying to give Gary a bath versus Lucio who’s body shifts more often than people who make tweets and capitalize Every Single Word.
I also think it may help projectile heroes even more as you can no longer dodge projectiles at certain ranges on pure reaction as you can on live.
I’m only going over the pros and cons this would have in the current OW, ignoring all the other additional changes coming to OW2
-
Pros
- Makes the amount of shots you land on Tracer vs Roadhog less severe (no more 20% weapon accuracy vs tracer, 80% accuracy vs poor tank players, it should probably be closer to 30% 80%)
-
Maybe Pro/Con depending on your own philosophy/opinion
- Good strafing is less rewarding
- Aim is more rewarding
-
Cons
- Heroes that do well with good aim are more likely going to be at the mercy of the balance team shudder
What do you guys think about it?
It has to feel about the same (or at least… as good) as it does now, otherwise it’s not worth it.
The biggest “con” by far is missing from your list: Movement acceleration feels awful for the person who’s moving. If you switch from Overwatch to any shooter that uses heavy movement acceleration, it feels like the entire game is played in slow motion, and your character is permanently trudging through an invisible knee-deep pool of mud.
I definitely don’t want that for Overwatch. Overwatch’s responsive controls and movement are one of the main reasons I can still enjoy this game after having gradually lost interest in the overall genre of competitive shooters.
That said, there are solutions that the devs can and should experiment with, in an effort to retain the responsive feel while also preventing Symmetra’s head from instantly teleporting a meter to the side every time she changes direction. I don’t think acceleration is entirely necessary to achieve that; I think the changes can focus more on improvements to animation blending instead—similar to how spamming crouch too fast barely moves your character’s head, despite significantly moving your camera.

Today a Widow peeked and immediately strafed back behind cover which made my hook break. This makes me angy. Blizzard, nerf, now!
