What is best mouse options / specs / properties for Overwatch with regards to performance / consistency outside the game client (ie. Window’s Mouse Properties -> Pointer Options, polling rate)
Specifically I’m really curious about whether or not to check the box next to “Enhance pointer precision” (within Window’s Mouse Properties)… as well as does it matter at what notch you have your windows pointer speed at?
Also, what is polling rate (within Razer synapse), and what is best for Overwatch… 125, 500, or 1000? I have my mouse set to 800 dpi.
And what about acceleration (within Razer synapse)? Is that good or bad in FPS games?
pretty sure that they are the same thing, but turn them off.
that is the average dpi for this game(according to what I have seen) but it is basically dots per inch, so how high your resolution is effects your dpi alot. it determines how many dots your mouse hovers over per inch on your mousepad a.k.a how fast you mouse is.
I myself use 400 dpi because I play very aim sensitive heroes(Widow, tracer), but that is only because I have a very large mousepad.
I don’t understand why mouse acceleration or pointer precision should be turned off?
Mouse acceleration (at least in my puny brain) makes you capable of utilizing a lower sensitivity (for highly aim sensitive heroes) while allowing you to turn around faster when you move your mouse fast enough
And pointer precision just sounds self explanatory, but I’ve heard ppl say to turn it off, but without any reason…
If you like it, then keep it. It’s all personal preference. But I prefer knowing that if I move my mouse 1 cm it will move the cursor a specific amount regardless of how fast I moved it. That way I only have to focus building muscle memory for movement amount instead of movement amount + movement speed.
And pointer precision is just another thing that makes the cursor movement amount variable per cm, so people turn it off for the same reasons as mouse acceleration.
they are too inconsistant in comparison to turning them off. they are making a mouse faster when it is moved faster, and slower when it is moved slowly. this creates a big inconsistancy in a players aim on widow flick shot, moving 360 degrees compaired to tracking a target and so on.
then I would recommend 800 dpi, unless you have a very large mousepad, then I would recommend a much lower sens, since you will be able to move your mouse more than if it was a small mousepad. 400-500 dpi I would say is good for that. if this doesnt work, try to use maybe half and hour on it yourself
He shouldn’t be adjusting DPI to adjust his sensitivity in Overwatch. That’s what the ingame setting is for. DPI should be set for non OW reasons and then the ingame setting adjusted to comfort.
yeah, but if he has a very high dpi and a low ingame sens, I have heard that it will be worse than the opposite. maybe that is just me hearing wrong information
Eh if there is a difference, then it’s negligible and not worth worrying about until you’re a pro. Set DPI so it’s comfortable for use in Windows so you can keep the pointer speed at 6/11 to avoid any garbage that Windows pulls, and then make the rest of the changes ingame.
