Mouse left click problem causes overwatch instant closes

My mouse is currently experiencing a malfunction with the left button click (used for actions such as shooting, etc.). The prevailing issue is that Overwatch consistently closes unexpectedly due to this problem. This situation appears perplexing, as it is not something within my control. I have already acquired another mouse, which is en route for delivery. However, I am left wondering why Overwatch is the sole application experiencing these enigmatic closures.

  • No crash logs
  • No error reporting in windows log event viewer.
  • No logs in general
  • No crashing report screen

Just why this is happening???

It could be that the contact inside the mouse is causing too many clicks in succession and the anti-cheat mechanism is picking it up.

What kind of maus is it? It could be the software that comes with it. Like if it’s Logitech it might have Ghub, Razer might have Synapse, Corsair would have iCue, and so on. All of those will have their own abilities to change actions for the buttons. Maybe your left button has some software level autorepeater on it or something. So you might want to try checking for any irregularities like this and try disabling/uninstalling them while you test.

My mouse is an KRoss Mouse Gaming model. I don’t have any 3rd party software like Logitec or razer installed.

Well remembered! I hadn’t thought about that. Sometimes I hold down the left mouse button to do damage with Reinhardt, for example, he doesn’t respond sometimes. It only gives a single hit and then stops.

And this is the 2nd time in a row that I formatted the PC, because I thought it had a virus or malware.

I was so paranoid about it, I even thought that someone had hacked into my PC and was spying on me.

Yep, classic symptoms of a mouse dying.

I bought a new mouse, it arrived this week. I tested sometimes it works normally, other times the game keeps closing. Before closing, the Framerate drops drastically as if indicating that it is going to crash and then the game closes instantly. Again with no logs and no error messages, I give up playing, I hope they release it as soon as possible on GeForceNOW, I have nothing else to play.

The Overwatch.log log files in the documents folder do not provide any information, it only samples information from voice chat (Vivox). So it becomes even more difficult to know what is happening.

TBH Overwatch is only game that does not provide any useeful logs/crashlogs to help in troubleshooting.

Notes

  • I’ve set --tank_MaxWorkerThreadCount=2 (half of total threads 4) in command line to limit number of working threads in overwatch. This is a known param since OW1, this helped me to solve "Render device was lost" problem

  • I known i’m under min specs, but i can play at 720p 30 fps (older maps i can play fine at 60 fps)

  • Just now, i don’t know if this is related, but I was making fun of my teammate symmetra by sending voiceline repeatedly and rotating the rein’s shield (before starting the round) could this perhaps have caused a problem? (Like I’ve literally seen Mercy’s do this when they go to revive their allies, they turn the mouse around to try to dodge the shots)

I still guess is my GPU crashing the game. I’m so excited to MSFT acquisition to add games on cloud services.

Update 29.09.2023

Seems OW2 is closing only when i play in fullscreen. If i play in borderless this don’t happen.

Update 03.10.2023

I’ve tested and seems overwatch is closing due dual monitor plugged. For example i play in my notebook, but the notbook screen is not working (half of screen is dead, and i’m unable to see what is in the screen) so i plugged in an external cable and used my external monitor.

Nothing wrong here. Except one thing, i’ve set in windows to use only the secondary monitor and the game just randomly closes without any message or error screen.

But i’ve set to duplicate monitor, and the problem didn’t happen for while. Tested many and many matches, played, able to finish without problems, even competitive matches.

And yes, this affect only in fullscreen mode. I don’t like borderless because its reduces FPS alot.

Update 05.10.2023

Ok even after testing dual monitor issues i had same problem. I found a strang behaviour related with windows explorer. For some reasons mouse is colliding with Overwatch icon in taskbar and when i right click (for heal/damage as support for example) the context menu shows and when i quickly move mouse and left click in the game for heal/damage, accidentally the Close action in taskbar is clicked. I’m testing to play overwatch without explorer opened (i just kill explorer.exe process in taskmgr) and currently is working.

Update 14.10.2023

For weird reason, the problem started again, tried everything, game just randomly closes. Still no crash log, no error message, the game just closes. No matter if was in lobby, playing, etc. I don’t have any idea what is causing this. I did a fresh install and still happeining.
