In this post, I’m gonna list various reasons as to why I and a lot of players I’ve heard about this from think Overwatch on console necessitates mouse input;
(At least) the Xbox game library, the multi-input Playstation games that have Mouse and Keyboard input enabled sending you to PC lobbies are expanding, leaving Overwatch behind to be stuck with controller input
Deterring XIM cheaters, this is a big one because, for a long time, Overwatch has experienced XIM users from different elos and making it nearly impossible to enter a high elo lobby on console without going through XIM abuse - if Blizzard doesn’t have resources to ban them, fine, if Microsoft or Sony won’t take responsibility for reports, okay. So send users not using licensed controller products to PC lobbies, removing any chance of them getting aim assist via detection.
In addition to the previous point, controller players should play with controller players, the mouse advantage is huge.
Streaming. Many people don’t have the money to afford a PC that can run Overwatch 2 well and stream it at the same time, the console streaming community is MASSIVE, but a lot of people are turned off by the quality of console lobbies, or being a “controller player” isn’t taken seriously despite many talented folks playing out there. This is a huge population of people Blizzard could benefit with a switch to PC lobbies.
Mouse and Keyboard on PC Overwatch is amazing, more people should be able to experience it in appropriate PC lobbies. New gen consoles get 120FPS or more, which is more than enough to enjoy them with.
Custom game creation - made much simpler with Mouse and Keyboard. So many modes are just amazing to play in downtime and it truly makes Overwatch unique.
LESSER QUE TIMES ON PC - Console ques are much faster, transferring players to PC ques would make for a good balance.
Like COD does, everything else besides the power button on the controller is disabled when Mouse and Keyboard is inputted; not that playing hybrid has any advantages, if you’re in a PC lobby with a controller you’re automatically at a disadvantage. This game is clearly made to be enjoyed on Mouse given how much faster it is on PC. (I use both PC and Console). If COD has changed this system then my apologies for the mistake.
Stick drift. NOBODY wants to deal with this, there aren’t even deadzone settings on Overwatch which means the player is stuck with whatever damage grew over weeks/months/years of gaming. This eventually makes experienced players move on from gaming (and Overwatch) as spending on controllers increase with or without inflation. A new controller in a lot of countries is half (or if lucky 1/3) the price of a new-gen console; Accessories like Mouse and Keyboard rarely break and can be replaced much cheaper, allowing more playtime.
Big bonus - the keyboard already works on Overwatch console, it allows you to select things seamlessly and type as you would on PC, you’d only have to add movement and mouse accessibility.
TO CLARIFY - No mouse and keyboard player would be able to join console lobbies.
I hope this is discussed further, if not, have a good day
I’m not in the console scene these days but this is just mind-boggling to me that you can’t use mouse keyboard. Throwback to the year 2000 me using mouse and keyboard playing quake 3 arena on Dreamcast online
100% agreed! And to add some ammo, Mike Ybarra, leader of all Blizzard Ent, tweeted 2/18/18, while working for Microsoft, that API’s exist to detect and ban XIM devices. But it’s up to the developer to do so. Well now that he’s in charge of said developer, let’s do this! Give console players kbm, and start banning XIM users.
this only applies to around half of the MNK players on console. Many of them only play mnk for the advantage.
This is also a bit of a misconception. R6 is about to take action against Xim and cronus but I believe they are implementing a way to play MNK (hopefully if you plug a native MNK in you get to q with PC players.) While detecting xim is exceedingly hard since Xim is just a normal controller software-wise, it would be very easy to take reports into account and take action there with bans.
I am fairly certain console players don’t play against PC players UNLESS the console player is grouped up with a PC player, then they get dumped into PC lobbies.
Meaning it should not be possible for you to play against PC players, unless you want to and actively seek out the means to do so.
Also, I play with a controller on both PC and Console, and I have rolled players on KB/M several times.
I don’t want to be “that guy” but it is a skill issue.
Once you practice enough with a controller, you will dome anyone, outside of like Widow players who flick headshot you in mid air.
You would be surprised how bad alot of PC players are at aiming, despite using a superior form of input.
I apologize if this comes across as rude, but what you’ve said has nothing to do with my post. My post is suggesting the addition of KBM input to console as other FPS games have done successfully without players resorting to “illegal” methods
blizzard could likely with permission from microsoft and sony could start scanning systems for hardware id’s matching those of a XIM and start booting people for using it like on the xbox it shouldnt be hard as the xbox os is a fork of windows 10 or maybe even 11 now the series x/s might be a fork of windows 11 in a hypervisor
Hypervisor is a really good point about this, it is by far one of the most sophisticated machines that can run different kernel-based usages. As a previous reply has stated, even games like R6S will be banning XIM on the 18th, Overwatch is being left behind in this race
