Motion Sickness

Like most people here, I have several hundred hours in Overwatch, and in all that time I have never once experienced motion sickness. However, I’m finding Overwatch 2 close to unplayable.

I played maybe five or six games yesterday as DPS/tank before having to stop, and I’ve just finished my third game of the evening as Brigitte and right now I feel incredibly dizzy and ill. Something about the game just feels… off.

Although my FOV settings are the same (cranked up to 103), the screen feels very cramped in Overwatch 2, and the camera feels like it moves faster (or something!), regardless of mouse settings. It really doesn’t feel right, as my spinning head will attest.

Anyway, I’m just wondering if anyone else has noticed anything similar.

i did notice that my fov felt a little weird, especially noticable on maps like route 66 where i know what its supposed to feel like, but i didnt get anywhere near close to motion sickness. could be unrelated if you just werent feeling well, give it another shot, stay hydrated

it is different. i mean its overwatch but the lighting, the speed of the game and i think the vfx effects increased meaning more clutter on the screen. its a bit darker too with bright tones which make a glare effect. i also cant tell silhouettes of heroes that much anymore. get confused who im fighting

There’s constant shacking every time you get shot from the outside perspective its great to see realistic deaths but boy getting hit from a pharah rocket made me want to quit immediately.

2 huge Issues I found to be unbearable are:

1: screen shake when shot
2: single tank is too much of a wild card. With a 2nd tank it feels more smooth and balanced

Yep, I’ve experienced the same thing  camera shake and states effects on the screen gave me a headache during 2 days after 5 hours playing OW2 : https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/additional-feedback-request-camera-shake/667875

Same here started feeling sick just after one support game. In Ow1 I can swing tracer all-day long.

I was feeling the same way playing a few open queue games in the beta (just got access to it today) I think they need to tone down the brightness of the effects of weapons and not have so many things going on screen wise for example with Lucio when he’s healing all you see is mainly yellow plus signs covering most of the screen and can barely distinguish what else is going on add that in the middle of a fight it’s insanity they need to change that up asap.

I know this topic is old but I can’t find a recent topic on this. I’ve just played three games of OW2 (I have 1700+ competitive hours on OW1). Never had an issue with motion sickness until now. OW2 is completely unplayable for me.

Someone in game suggested it’s because the colours are so muted that it’s hard to focus. I’m not sure what it is but the FOV feels weird, even though it’s set the same as I had in OW1 and there is something off about the colours. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced and if there is a chance Blizzard will take a look at this?

It’s so frustrating, OW1 was the only game I play and now OW2 is completely unplayable for me (I feel like I’m about to throw up and probably will for the rest of the day).

Does anyone have any suggestions on anything that could be changed in the settings that might help?

The betas made me pretty sick and triggered a bad migraine for me initially, keeping sessions short and sweet desensitized me pretty quick. I didn’t notice any issues playing earlier. You might well improve too with time.

Otherwise, I think all you can do is play around with the Brightness/Contrast/Gamma settings or your monitor/desktop settings.

After more research it seems that Overwatch 2 has motion blur and camera shaking enabled with no option to disable either. I’ve always disabled motion blur in games I’ve played previously so I’m certain this is the issue.

Will the ability to disable motion blur and camera shake be added to Overwatch 2?

This was a problem that got ignored in the beta. I also got the bad eye strain and migraines.

Lots of people reported this in the beta. And yet it remains.

I’ve submitted a support ticket and am going to keep contacting them until there is a resolution. If anyone else feels so inclined, that would be great. The more voices, the more likely we are to be heard.

Blizzard states “every voice matters” and “inclusive design matters”, so they need to ensure their games are accessible to everyone including those who suffer from motion sickness.

You don’t honestly still believe they follow that, do you?

Go to:

main menu > menu > options > accessibility > camera shake > reduced

main menu > menu > options > accessibility > hud shake > off

main menu > menu > options > accessibility > reduce menu movement > on
