Overwatch 2 should add more materials than just a golden gun, like maybe instead of just gold you could just choose varieties “gun skins” like diamond gun or ruby gun, (and please delete golden gun it looks ugly af)
Agreed. CP should’ve been applicable to so much more “merit” based options.
Nope, gotta keep it in.
The Overwatch team has said in the past that they actually dislike golden weapons as it provides a negative reason to play competitive. People only play comp in order to finish placements and then never touch the game mode again, just for the end of season rewards.
I doubt they will be adding any other types of competitive credit unlocks.
So weird they havent yet. Ill buy the damn skins if they’d just add them.
Yes, but then, why keep them in for OW2? They had a perfect opportunity to retire golden weapons along with all the other fun things they retired, so why keep them if they didn’t even want them in the first place?
If you’re gonna keep them, might as well go all the way and introduce new variants for the people who have all their golden guns already.
I just hope you can get them with competitive points and not buy them for the price of real rubies (which is possible with Blizzard…)
I can’t answer that. They said this years ago now, like back in 2017 or something. Specifically Jeff Kaplan, the previous Lead Game Director.
Its different now since you want as many people as possible to play all roles for ranked to get little faster q times.
Why would they care for reason you are there, if they dont even care about ranks much anymore in ranked.
I’m aware, it was a rhetorical question. Blizzard likes to say something is bad but then do F all about said thing.
Well to do that they would have to make some major changes to support, because flexing basically guarantees support 95% of the time. Nobody plays support.
Personally, I’ve been having way more fun playing support in Overwatch 2. I feel as if I don’t need to be a complete heal bot in order to win games and I can actually be useful.
The thing is, it’s not inherently bad. I think the competitive points reward is really cool and other games should strive to do the same thing. The issue is that it shouldn’t be an end of season reward, so you don’t have people just doing placements and half-throwing games. With the new system it has somewhat helped that issue though. You either have to lose 20 games in a row instead of just doing the 5 placement games, or actively try to win those 7 games.
They can rework golden guns where its not exclusive to comp.
They can change it to:
- Achieve a certain amount of hours played with that hero from playing qp and comp.
- Complete all the hero’s hero challenges to achieve their golden weapon.
- Accumulate a certain amount of wins in qp and comp to unlock the hero’s golden weapon.
This can change a lot, especially for competitive players…it will change for people who actually wanna play comp to get better or for those who are just doing comp for golden guns.
I actually really like this idea. Reminds me of “prestige” or whatever in Paladins. You got character skins based on how much you play the character and I always wanted to see that in Overwatch.
This already exists with the achievement sprays.
Paladins has champion mastery levels, where once you get a champion to mastery level 50, you get their golden skin. Thats the equivalent of getting around 100 hours played on a single hero in OW.
Yeah hero mastery. That’s exactly what I was thinking.
If blizzard does a similar thing, you will really see a difference in comp, because we will see people who actually wanna play comp and who doesnt
