More Game Sense, Less Mechanics

This update is going to be the best thing for casual gamers since Fortnite released. Lower rankers, we all have been frustrated when we make the right switches, have the right positioning, but can’t progress because our aim is dumpster juice, while Mr. Run and Gun 76 or hide and go Widow has all the fun. This update is for us.

Just like I called 5v5 for OW1, I knew someday OW would prioritize game sense over mechanical skill. Aaron Keller > Jeff “it’s the community’s fault” Kaplan

I heard a weird take, which was one of the reasons for this dumbing down of the game was to try to combat the excessive amount of cheating these days.

If players have it easier on aiming, perhaps they won’t be so inclined to cheat.

Personally, I’ve have issued parenting advice and a proper spanking paddle to deal with the undisciplined children.

It would be lovely to find out a hacker’s location the minute they start and punish them accordingly but sadly we don’t live in those dystopian times yet

More game sense? Hey I was already good at that

I do agree, but aim is still important. My buggest fear is that this update makes Ximmers on console way to strong that they will be nearly unbeatable anymore

how are you advocating for 5v5 in ow1 and talking about game sense? the two things dont work together, game sense, coordination and strategy will always be superior in 6v6

Low rank players aren’t low rank because they can’t aim. They are low rank because they have bad game sense.

That you don’t know this tells me you’ll stay low rank even with this change.

That is not to say it won’t do anything for casuals. It’ll increase the positive feedback from landing shots so theoretically, make the game more enjoyable for bad aimers. Just don’t expect to climb on this crutch.

Progression in anything is about getting better - it’s literally the definition of the word. So you don’t want to practice to actually progress your your aim and now the whole game becomes less skillful? You want to progress without actually progressing and now the whole game is impacted. It’s partly delusional

If you are low rank you probably don’t have good game sense either.

I miss the days when gaming wasn’t so mainstream bc companies’ attempts to milk as much $ from casuals results in worse games that won’t stand the test of time.

Most competitive games that people continue to want to play and compete in for decades are due to super high skill ceilings

Why don’t we just make every basketball hoop wider so more people can sink shots?

I will never understand how casuals think game sense is more approachable or easier than mechanics. It’s not. It’s far more abstract and isn’t something you can practice by yourself. You guys are like the newbs that think the hard thing about fighting games are combos rather than literally everything else.

Average low rank player thinks their game sense is awesome.

Yet is full of tanks players that don’t ever look where their team is and get mad if their team isn’t with them.

Full of supports that never top off DPS.

Full of DPS that don’t know a good position if it hits them in the face. Looking at you Soldier that drops off the high ground.

I will say, these new hitboxes are ‘interesting’.

There is a silver lining in that this could make balancing heros easier as the soj problem becomes less pronounced. Really powerful heros that lower players cannot access so they won’t nerf them. Or even the opposite, a weak hero thats too strong on lower ranks to be buffed.

But It feels very hard to miss on this patch.
