Mei wasn’t originally canonically fat. She was wearing thick padded clothing due to working in cold climates, and keeping that tech on her probably keeps her fairly cold.
She was only later given a thicc skin when a bunch of people on the community mistakenly saw that as fat and decided Mei MUST BE THICC NOW.
