Heya, I have been tweaking my settings inside and out of OW and wanted to expand more on the details the devs gave since the their advice on game settings were most likely very simplified for a broader and less technical audience.
A note on screen tearing:
You can see screen tearing as a distortion on your monitor, this is more visible if you look at verticle lines in game and look left to right at a reasonable speed.
Those verticle lines may look detached from each other or star stepped rather than straight lines.
This happens when the frame rate of the game goes above the refresh rate of the monitor.
Uncapped no V-sync settings will obviously have the lowest latency but has the screen tearing issue.
For G-sync and Freesync monitors that support G-sync:
In your Nvidia control panel > Set up G-sync
Tick enable G-sync, enable for windowed and fullscreen then hit apply. (your screen may flicker)
Navigate to: Manage 3D settings > Program settings.
In the drop box locate the Overwatch 2 program.
Set your:
Low latency Mode = Off
Max frame rate = Off
Monitor technology = G-sync
Power management mode = Prefer maximum performance
Preferred refresh rate = Highest avaliable
Triple buffering = Off
Verticle sync = On
Hit apply
Adjust desktop size and position
Tick no scaling then hit apply.
OW2 game settings
Display mode = fullscreen
Resolution = matches the native specification of your monitor.
Render scale = custom
In-game resolution = 100%
Frame rate = custom
Maximum frame rate = your native refresh rate but minus 3
Triple buffering = off
Reduced buffering = off
Nvidia reflex = enabled + Boost
Gameplay
Enable high precision mouse input = On
These settings are suggested by Blurbusters(dot)com the hows and why for these settings are on their website.
For any other monitor use the same settings if avaliable but also:
Use V-sync but if Nvidia fast sync or AMD enhanced sync is avaliable use that instead.
Additional things to check:
Make sure your mouse polling rate is set to the highest option avaliable. (usually 1000Hz)
Disable any power settings especially for your CPU as it will help improve frame rate and consistency.
