Hello people who happen to stumble across this. If you love Moira with a passion or don’t like hearing people complain, this guide may not be for you because I’m “discussing” (g̶l̶o̶r̶i̶f̶i̶e̶d̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶p̶l̶a̶i̶n̶i̶n̶g̶) Moira, the hero who I have not seen one change to yet. So she must be perfect right? Well, she’s not. Remember when we all used to meme about Zenyatta and Mercy being the “best DPS in overwatch lul.” Sorry folks, Moira has now taken that crown, and it’s proven in the fact that she is a viable pick in deathmatch. With Symmetra’s lock on removed from her, people have left her in the dust. (Please do not bring it back, I’m begging you Blizzard.) So people have moved on to the next best “accuracy independent” hero. Moira. She still has her lock on, she can heal her team (although most of the time they choose not to) and she can heal herself while doing a steady stream of damage with an absurd range. To put this range into perspective, I tried it out on the training range. She can reach the bots that you first see when you walk out the building, and the ones that walk around on the lower beam, within only a couple steps outside the spawn. Actually she can reach the bot on the right inside the spawn (the ones directly in front of the training range spawn. So with this in mind, Moira can stay safe inside the spawn, killing the enemies that can’t get to her, without Moira having to aim. This is a huge problem for heroes that have shorter ranges, like Reaper and Reinhardt. (Although Reinhardt isn’t affect by this much since his health pool is extremely high. Some of you might say, “But her damage is low!!!1!” This is all true, but she can melt some of the lower health heroes within seconds. Also, she has a ball, which with the testing I have done does more damage than her grasp. This is just from the testing that I have done with her ball keep in mind so it might be wrong. But we also have to remember that her ball can lock onto multiple targets at once. I find the problems with Moira more often inn deathmatch then I do in quickplay. Moira herself is rather “squishy” but this problem is no more due to her dash which is the product that you get when you cross Reaper’s teleport and Genji’s dash. So all around she is a pretty troublesome hero to deal with, especially in deathmatch. With her long range hero melting capabilities, her rather strong dash, and her lock on orbs. Thanks to all of you who read this, and have a wonderful rest of your day or night.
lulz.
lulz.
Deathmatch isn’t a balanced game mode in the first place. Moira’s “lock on” is more of a cosmetic look. She has a thick beam that, if you hit an enemy with it, appears to bend to make it look more appealing. You cannot be far off whatsoever or the line breaks.
She’s tough in deathmatch when she’s in corridors, but she’s balanced in regular gameplay, imo. I dislike DPS Moiras, especially since you don’t know whether you’re getting a primary DPS Moira or primary healer Moira on the hero select screen.

Paragraphs I beg of you.

Moira is probably the most balanced hero in the hame right now, alongside Zenyatta.
I didn’t even read what you said but I still know you’re wrong.
First of all, please learn to use that Enter key. It’s really handy for making the things you write readable.
Second, Moira can be a pain in Deathmatch, but playing her as a DPS hero outside of that is a waste of a slot on the team. If a Moira is playing DPS instead of healer, that makes things much easier for the enemy team, because she’s good at healing, but doesn’t do a whole ton of damage.
you cannot be far off whatsoever
uh, yeah you can. that’s the whole point of her beam, to have a super large hitbox so you don’t have to put in ANY effort into aiming.
deathmatch is an arcade mode… those modes have terrible balance states… people shouldnt care about them imo.
I’m not reading it because it’s messy but i can already say your wrong.
Messy post, messy opinion.
It’s very easy to break lock with her beam, too.
Go into the training room, pick Moira, and tell me what happens when you move the reticule off of the target.
it still damages them.
So the main arguments I am seeing here are her damage so I’m just going to go ahead and address that. I have dabbled in Moira a bit but I am also by no means an expert so take that as you will.
First, her damage orb does the same amount of damage as her alt fire. It deals 200 dmg over the course of four seconds which equals out to 50 DPS - same as her alt fire.
Also, while we are on that topic, her DPS is only 50. It takes three full seconds to take down a Tracer, and that is assuming she does not use Recall somewhere in between. It takes four whole seconds to kill a 200 HP hero. There are plenty of heroes that can either burst down Moira or break her beam before those three or four seconds are up. There are only a few things that do less damage than Moira and the main ones that come to mind for me are quick melee and uncharged sniper shots (29 for Hanzo and 12 for Widow). The rest either does more damage right out the gate, or when you factor in the damage with the rate of fire, it ends up being more than 50 DPS.
And if we are complaining about 50 DPS, what about Winston? He does 60 DPS but I rarely saw complaints about him during dive.
I’m also seeing people in this thread discussing whether she is a lock-on or not so here are my two cents: She is about as much of a lock-on as Winston is. Which means she is not. It is more of a soft-lock. But you still need to track with her like you do with Winston.
Moira has the lowest DPS in the game. However, she is a good duelist due to her intense self-healing and escape ability. Don’t mistake her for a DPS just because she can win a series of 1v1s in Deathmatch. In Deathmatch, she doesn’t have a team to worry about, so she’s free to use all of her abilities selfishly. In actual matches, she doesn’t even get bronze damage due to how low her actual damage output is.
She’s designed to be a self-sufficient support that doesn’t lose fights against flankers, but she doesn’t have the damage output to be a DPS.
Moira is already a dead character at any serious level of play; the nerf to healing through barriers have pretty much killed her off.
Ana was already in a bad place, Moira was pushed there because of “bug fixes”
Moira was perfectly balanced before they changed this; she had clear strengths and weaknesses WITHOUT them cancelling eachother out like Ana.
Strong heals and easy damage; but that is IT. No extra damage multiplier, no speed increase, no anti-heals, no cc, no way to undo kills.
Moira was and is probably the BEST character they have released so far.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but she just got a massive nerf where her left click can no longer heal behind barriers.
Also the fact that you brought up deathmatch and think she has a lock-on gave me a good laugh.
The New DPS
She’s been out for almost 9 months
She just had a massive NERF in the form of a recent patch that fixes a “bug” that most people considered to be a part of her kit after this long
Cool, are we going to start doing balance changes to the core team based aspect of the game based off a supplementary game mode?
She does not
Her range is just over 20m and can heal herself for a total of 30 hps. This isn’t exactly a difficult amount of damage to outdo.
You know you can just look up these numbers, right? It might make you sound at least a tiny bit credible. Her health orb does 300 hp over 4 seconds and lasts 10 seconds, disappearing at whichever comes first, damage the same thing but a max of 200 hp doing a max of 50 hp/s. It’s also loud and slow moving, and once you have even a bit of game sense is not at all difficult to avoid.
Yes but it can still only do a max of 200 total hp, meaning it’s actually less effective spread out amongst multiple targets because it’s less likely to kill any one hero unless you get very lucky and get multiple very low hp targets with 0 situational awareness that walk into it.
If you’re playing Rein and are consistently dying to Moira, it’s time to get off Rein. Her beam can’t penetrate shields and her primary damage ability does less against enemies with armor like Rein. Keep your shield up, bait out fade with either primary or firestrike, then close the distance and bash her.
can no longer heal through barriers,
Mainly due to her great dueling potential not because she’s a great dps
someone had trouble staying out of symms range I see
never use the training range bots that whole place needs a huge rework especially the bots the hitboxes are atrociously big and needs to be reduced
ik i should have replied to this first but I saw training range and felt the need to make sure I got a reply to that in, but yes she needs this range no it shouldn’t be reduced.
not really a problem for either reaper can get into range easily and if he can’t that means he isnt flanking like he should to get to moira same with rein he should never have much of a problem getting into her range nor does he really need to
just like every character in this game even among them hers is still a high ttk without her orb and if she uses it to kill you that means her team isnt getting that sweet sweet healing orb
yep and thats one of the worse things about it especially once you add more people as it just makes the whole thing useless and in death match where there are 7 other enemies and that 200 has to be split between them they’ll all take an average of ~29 damage of course this changes depending on the amount of enemies but you get my point
nope its what you get when you make reapers wraith form give him an even larger speed boost and invisibility but drastically reduce the time in it and thats Moira’s fade if it was a combination of either of those 2 it would also have vertical mobility
So what you’re saying is you want a nerf to her because she’s pretty good in death match?
Moira doesn’t have lock on. She is viable at lower lvl dm coz of her 1v1 potential, meanwhile she wont work at master + lvl of play. Anyway you dont balance heroes around dm. Her range is very limited, as Zen I can snipe bots from spawn(with way better dmg), same as Ana, Mercy and most of other heroes.
moira doesn’t have a lock on.
then let’s call it what it is: a beam with a MASSIVE hitbox that makes it virtually impossible to miss your target.
