Moira Talent Tree

Remember when we were gonna have a Co-Op? And every hero was gonna have a super neato talent tree? I do! I still lament that fact to this day.and you should too Anyways, since those folks aren’t making talent trees, I am! I’ve already done a few before here, but this is my first support. Here’s Moira. With a whopping 75 talents, all named! (If I can do it, so can you Blizzard)

Each talent tree is separated into three smaller talents. You can choose to focus on a specific tree which will give you additional points to use towards that tree as well as a small additional perk. Assume every talent can be leveled up three times.

(Also, credit to u/cal-nomen-official for some of the ideas)

  • Biochemist - Slightly increases Biotic Healing capacity - Focuses on Moira’s ability to heal and peel for her team.
    • Row 1
      • For You - Increases the radius of Biotic Healing
      • To You - Increases range of Biotic Healing.
      • Healing Aerosol - Moira’s healing remains in the air for a small period of time and can be used until it disappears or is exhausted.
      • Immune System - Biotic Orb gives an instant burst of healing or damage if the orb passes right through an ally or enemy.
    • Row 2
      • Stocked Orb - Increases the healing capacity of Biotic Orb.
      • Endless Supply - Increases the healing capacity of Biotic Healing
      • Touch of Life - Healing is more effective the closer Moira is to an ally.
      • Biotic Surplus - Damage from Biotic Grasp can overstock Moira’s Biotic Healing.
    • Row 3
      • Dual Orb - Biotic Orb can both heal and damage at the same time.
      • Recycled Healing - can be immediately sucked back in with Biotic Grasp to be more effective when later used.
      • Laced Medication - Moira can alter her healing to give increases to other stats at the sacrifice of healing per second.
      • Mitotic Orb - Pressing the Interact button while preparing Biotic Orb creates an orb that cleanses and boosts healing received to any ally it goes through.
    • Row 4
      • Biotic Streak - Can release a streak of healing/damage mid-Fade that passes through everything.
      • Healing Smoke - Fading leaves behind a puff of health.
      • Preparatory Altercations - Moira can give permanent stat boosts to her teammates at the start of a mission.
      • Fertilized Healing - Moira does more healing based on the amount of healing currently stored.
    • Row 5
      • Multitasking - Moira can use both of her arms at the same time.
      • Entangled - Biotic Orb will also do a smaller amount of healing or damage as well as its primary function.
      • Healing Overwhelming - Coalescence can overheal targets.
      • Simple Trigonometry - Coalescence reflects off of surfaces.
    • Row 6
      • Expanded Will - Increases the radius of Coalescence.
      • Extended Will - Increases the range of Coalescence.
      • Protective Grasp - Healing allies at high health protects them from incoming damage.
      • Will’s Origin - Coalescence is more effective when closer to Moira.
    • Row 7
      • Disseverance - Coalescence can swap between an extreme increase of damage at the cost of healing or an extreme boost in healing and overheal capacity at the cost of damage.
  • Plaguebearer - Slightly increases recharge speed for healing - Focuses on all of the ways Moira can deal damage to restock her healing.
    • Row 1
      • Biotic Efficiency - Increases recharge speed for healing while using Biotic Grasp.
      • Does That Sting? - Melee does additional damage over time. Melee now recharges Biotic Healing.
      • Burning Sensation - Biotic Grasp does a small amount of additional damage after being released.
      • Biotic Excess - Moira releases some healing from her body while she has someone in her grasp.
    • Row 2
      • Biotic Bomb - Biotic Orb explodes once it expires.
      • Spiked Orb - Increases damage capacity of Biotic Orb.
      • Chemical Experimentation - Moira can use her hand as a burner and concoct a variety of chemical compounds that have a variety of effects. This depends on how long the flask has been burning. Leveling this up unlocks more options.
      • Necrotic Orb - Press the reload button while Biotic Orb is being prepared to send an orb that makes enemies weaker.
    • Row 3
      • Abuse - Allies deal additional damage to enemies in Moira’s Grasp.
      • Danger Zone - Increases self-healing when at critical health.
      • Biotic Residue - Biotic Orb leaves behind pillars of energy that either heal or deal damage based on the orb.
      • Life Force Drain - Biotic Grasp decreases enemies’ speed.
    • Row 4
      • Toxic Floor - Using Biotic Grasp on the ground for an extended period of time turns the floor toxic and will drain any enemy under it.
      • Chemical Warfare - Moira can envelop an area in dangerous fog that weakens enemies and heals allies.
      • Euthanasia - Melee immediately kills weaker enemies.
      • Chemical Reaction - Moira can trigger her biotic healing and orb to react and combust, damaging enemies.
    • Row 5
      • Strangle - Biotic Grasp’s damage increases as it’s locked onto an enemy.
      • Biotic Grip - Biotic Grasp literally grabs enemies with Biotic Grasp and can drag them around.
      • Bio-Tracking - Biotic Orb will lock onto an enemy and remain with it until the enemy dies or the orb is exhausted.
      • Chemical Set - Moira can stockpile her concoctions with a set of biotic tendrils. This also increases her health slightly.
    • Row 6
      • Chemical Outbreak - Dealing enough damage to an enemy’s critical hitpoint infects them with a disease that deals damage over time that can spread to other enemies.
      • In My Grasp - Fading onto an enemy lets Moira grab them and use them as a shield while she drains them dry.
      • Soul Eater - Moira can use Biotic Grasp on multiple targets.
      • Accumulated Will - Moira can hold down Coalescence to charge up a large orb of healing and destruction. The beam is inactive while it’s being charged.
    • Row 7
      • Pandemic - Coalescences effectiveness increases based on how many units or players are in contact with it.
  • Necromancer - Slightly increases the minimum connection between Moira and her teammates (see Guinea Pigs) - This tree focuses on Moira’s unethical and unapologetic view when it comes to science and how she strikes fear in her enemies and allies alike whilst slowly gaining more and more control over them both.
    • Row 1
      • Chilling - Passing through enemies deals damage to them and strikes them with fear. Fear completely stops an enemy in its tracks and decreases accuracy, but increases fire rate.
      • Biotic Overdose - Biotic Healing can now damage enemies.
      • Science Goes On - Moira can continue to heal allies after Biotic Healing has been exhausted at the cost of her own health.
      • Evanescence - Increases duration of Fade. Fade can be cancelled.
    • Row 2
      • The Cost of Progress - Greatly increases the strength of Moira’s Biotic Grasp at the cost of a smaller health capacity and a stamina meter.
      • Biotic Tether - Biotic Grasp now tethers onto an enemy after they’ve been targeted.
      • Phase - Moira can phase through walls. Leveling this up increases the amount of space she can phase through.
      • Guinea Pigs - The more Moira meddles with their allies, the less damage they take. This gives other bonuses as the connection increases and as level increases.
    • Row 3
      • Biotic Transfer - Biotic Orb will recharge while in flight as long as Moira deals enough damage with Biotic Grasp
      • Medical Tenacity - Players healed enough by Moira will still be able to fight even after their health reaches zero.
      • Chemical Life Force - Moira can drain her own allies’ health and replace it with chemical life force. This has increased defense and is able to regenerate naturally. However, this health can only be healed and reverted by Moira. This will increase connection without possible decay. Her allies do not have to consent!
      • Life Escapes You - Enemies move slower and slower based on how much of their health has been drained by Moira.
    • Row 4
      • Biotic Copy - Draining enough of an enemy’s life force creates a copy of Moira alongside her. This has a very small amount of health and cannot be healed. Increasing the level increases the amount of clones
      • New Heights - Fade grants complete flight for its duration. Increases Fade time further.
      • The Doctor Is In - Allies near Moira with a deep enough connection with her will shoot faster. After a certain amount of damage has been dealt by Moira, allies will have their cooldowns immediately shortened at the cost of a quick reduction in speed.
      • Toxic Prison - Moira can counter enemy projectiles and them snare them in a biotic orb.
    • Row 5
      • A Spark of Death - Draining enemy health while healing is at full capacity creates a cloud of life force that weakens enemies under it. The cloud increases in size as life force is drained and decays over time. It can also form by pointing Coalescence into the air. The effects of the cloud become more and more extreme as level increases.
      • Unexpected Help - Healing defeated enemies enough will bring them back from the dead and make them fight on your side.
      • Pavlov’s Method - Heroes get a boost in ult charge if they respond to a ping by Moira. This is based on their connection to her.
      • Unwilling Help - Enemies have a chance to turn on their allies if they are damaged to near death by Moira.
    • Row 6
      • Field Study - Fading near allies also grants them intangibility. This increases based on their connection to Moira.
      • Invisible Death - Fading through an enemy that’s connected by a Biotic Orb infects them with a disease that will slowly and subtly kill them over a certain period of time, otherwise invisible. Once a certain amount of time has passed, they will be instantly killed.
      • Beyond Death - If you are killed with a deep enough connection to Moira, your corpse will continue to fight automatically. Moira can call them off.
      • Doctor’s Orders - If Moira pings a target, all nearby allies with a deep enough collection automatically lock onto that target and deal additional damage.
    • Row 7
      • Back from the Brink - Coalescence speeds up the recovery time and automatically revives teammates when pointed at them. The timer is paused when doing so. Reviving teammates resets the duration.

It’s so hard to read strikethrough on the entire post
(Edit: he fixed it)

I love this sort of creativity! Why strike it through :frowning:

I’m sorry for you.
You’ve put more effort in this than the entire team did for all PvE.

Remember when they tried to change one of Moira’s abilities and everyone went nuts?
Pepperidge Memes remembers.

Thank you for fixing the strikethrough; that would actually be pretty sick to implement. Too bad you just spent more time on this one post than a couple hundred devs did in 4 years. :joy:

Maybe you can make a workshop gamemode! I know I’d play it

Remember when Mercy had skilled projectiles in her talent tree instead of damage boost?

…only if it was a Moba from the start or Diablo. :grimacing:

don’t get me wrong, I think there is a very legitimate problem with abandoning the “fantastic” talent tree we saw at blizzconline, the one where we could see a screen for Soldier, mercy and reinhardt: the amount of talent was really too huge variations on each individual character. in the end it would have been like developing diablo, which already makes a lot of effort in planning 5 heroes to debut and then releasing others later. or rather… I can perfectly imagine that they found themselves saying “ah… now we have to do it for over 32 heroes + others that are about to arrive. wow… so much works

the diabnlo event we had on Halloween confirmed something for me about the change of plan for the talent tree: it would certainly have been fantastic visually, but it would have solved absolutely nothing with the replayability and monotony of the missions. pve was abandoned after 3 weeks of existence, just as we saw people almost immediately get bored of the (much more simplified) diablo mode because it was simply repetitive. PVE will never be saved through a talent tree, and perhaps they realized this too late to take back that promise.

But I agree on one thing: they could have at least left the simplified talent tree active from BlizzCon 2019, when we saw Overwatch heroes who could choose at least 3 types of extra skills. it was at least a duty to make the uniqueness of the project felt, and to discard fewer things than they did in the end. Rio is in fact the most boring mission, Toronto is the most confusing and unbalanced. in my opinion gotheborg got a PVE direction right, the variety of turrets is fun, and makes you understand how much the gameplay could have been amplified instead of completely eliminating the talents.

Just wonder if anyone actually read it all lol… I sure didn’t… Just curious…

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s nice and all…

But what about the skill tree, hmm?

well… basically you’re asking for too many specific technologies for just one character. usually in MOBA contexts we tend to modify the numbers for each ability, but here I see multiple types of “technical grips” that affect the environment: healing areas that remain for a small amount of time, a rule for the orb if it crosses the hitbox of someone, effectiveness of healing on the distance between her and a subject, etc, etc (MANY etc)… there are perhaps TOO MANY particular effects rather than simple numerical buffs of what she already does. to develop them you don’t realize that just for her it would take a year, if it were to be adapted to an FPS with related interaction testing, it is one of the reasons why MOBAs are often very simplified with a view from above and subject to models 3D much smaller than fps size. Modifiers exist, but they must be carefully dosed between the various levels.

But… you don’t lack inventiveness. Some effects seem suitable to be applied for future healers for the game (which by the way, is also another point as to why in my opinion they don’t want to put the talent tree: it would create divergences between heroes who have too similar effects to each other) . And if Heroes of the Storm were to resume (which strangely has had some unexpected updates in the last two months)… I would send a possible feedback “moira hero of the nexus”.
