Moira is most likely NOT trans - Judging by (what little) evidence the devs have shown

Facts about Moira:
-She is referred to as a “she” in all canonical literature.
-She dresses androgynously.

If she’s M2F (born as male; identifies as female) trans, she would most likely grow her hair longer and wear more traditionally feminine clothing, as seen with the majority of M2F trans individuals. Afterall, the point is to physically appear more like a biological female, to match her female psychological identity.

If she’s F2M (born female; identifies as male) trans, she’s not doing a very good job by still going with her distinctly female name of “Moira”, and occasionally wearing dresses like the qipao she wears in her Lunar New Year “Dog Person” spray,

(btw, my culture is not your damn costume, Moira! jk jk)
… as well as putting on the Valkyrie suit-- an obviously tailored-to-female uniform-- while she was in Blackwatch.

So Moira is most likely not a trans individual, going by what the game’s little lore has to offer. Most likely, she’s just an androgynous/gender-nonconforming woman.

However, she CAN be trans. You can say that Moira just isn’t like most trans folks, which is a possibility, and I’m 100% sure there are trans individuals out there who fit Moira’s description.

And as long as Blizzard comes out and says that she is trans, she is trans. She can also be Martian, if Blizzard says so. Or a Cylon (BSG crossover?) We don’t know. And since none of that is supported by evidence, we don’t consider it.

It’s just that based on what we know, she probably isn’t.

Or shes just a woman who likes her hair short and likes dressing how she pleases.

shes more likely a tomboy then anything.

My only reason to be skeptical is that it’d be in bad taste for only* trans hero to be a villian (yeah I know, she’s in it for the science but regardless, she works for a terrorist organization). It’s a trope that kinda needs to die.

*Of course this could just be solved with other trans heroes that aren’t villians.

Live your truth i guess. I’m js you could have just @d OP in their thread hahaha

You mean… a tommiddleagedwoman? She’s like 48 :V

But yeah.

Pretty sure she’s just Androgynous. She just dresses in androgynous clothing. That’s it. Her personality isn’t anything of a tomboy.

Well… to be truly equal, you gotta be just that… truly equal.

No matter your sex, gender, age, ethnicity, whatever else, we can all be heroes OR villains.

But I see your point. They probably would prefer to make the LGBTQ+ heroes more “heroic” heroes.

I like her regardless though. As an in-game hero, as a character, I just really like Moira. No matter if she turns out to be whatever gender, or even a secret Omnic spy (omfg Terminator), I still find her interesting.

I am pretty sure its David Bowie.

Personally, I think it would be a bad idea to make Moira trans because shes evil and that’s how people irl see many trans people and trans people don’t wan’t to have an evil character rep them. All I’m gonna say is; if you really like Moira and wanna see her as trans, that’s great, if you like Moira and don’t see her as trans, that’s great. ((I don’t mean this in a rude way either btw!!))

They confirmed she’s just androgynous

I honestly never understood the claim that Moira is anything but an actual woman. She’s androgynous. Simple as that.

I kinda like her design, tbh.

Did they :V

I hear this. But no source. Did Michael Chu take to twitter again.

(even if she was trans mtf, she’d still be referred to as “she” lol)

but yeah, her foundation spray shows she’s really just always been a tomboy. her trick or treat one will probably be similar.

edit: blizz also gave her the classic female character treatment with the blackwatch skin. just equip it and look at the transformation highlight intro and you’ll see what i mean.

I really love her as a character. When she was revealed I was only maybe 70% on board. But playing as her, all the little quips and audio queues really shape her as a character. Blizzard did a wonderful job with her, visually and audibly(?).

That doesn’t even make sense considering trans women ARE referred to as she in the normal context (unless they want to be referred to as “he”). Moira might just want to be called a “she”…what is wrong with that?

I wish you ignorant people would stop trying to label her as trans just because she looks androgynous. How do you think that makes the androgynous females who post here regularly, who are just women. You’re essentially saying hey you look kind of manly so you must be trans!

That’s why I broke it down to the possible 2 cases. If she’s trans, she’s either M2F or F2M.

In your case, trans women (M2F) mostly are referred as she, and go by female names, both of which Moira does.

But she dresses non-femininely most of the time and has non-feminine hair.

Which is why I say it doesn’t quite make sense for her to be M2F trans (although as pointed out, some M2F trans folks DO have masculine hair or occasionally dress masculinely).

Just saying there’s no definitive evidence to support the claim.

It’s a mixed bag and more easily explained by saying she’s just androgynous/gender-nonconforming.

Again, I repeat: I’m not trying to DISPROVE she’s trans. That’s not a possible task. It’s just likely she’s not given what we have.

Never thought of it that way XD

Well, the androgynous females are well-represented by Moira imo.

She’s arguably the most interesting, funny, badass and deep (or potential depth; we really don’t have a lot of lore T_T) hero in the game.

I love Moira, tbh I don’t care what she is but I get kind of tired of the trans agenda being pushed all the time. Like do you really need that much validation that you want a video game character that’s complete fiction to be trans just because you are? I think you have bigger issues going on in your life.

Who in the hell honestly cares about this?
