Moira is a skill check hero

In Mid-Lower ranks, Moira can clown on many DPS heroes because of her low aim requirement.

But as the Damage players improve, Moira’s goal becomes surviving under pressure not winning duels anymore. Because even Sombra and Soldier players will win the 1v1 if Moira plays agro

People don’t wanna hear that, tho. And this comes from someone who doesn’t really like to play Moira.

How much of a skill check though…especially when you consider the ease with which she presents that skill check

I don’t disagree but it can still be an issue…tracers and genjis also provide a skill check but aren’t what most people would consider to be unfair

a skill check that requires no skill huh let me just get a free boost off sr and call people unskilled  moira is hard to kill even for the best dps heroes, and the fact that she can do that with no skill makes it a broken kit, not a skill check.
not a gengu main btw

Moira’s skill ceiling definitely isn’t high, but you cannot play her in a high rank without putting into thought your ult usage and positioning if you expect to play her at a maximum value. Also Moira’s maximum value is outputting damage, so I think that’s why a lot of people rank up with her easily. She’s not supposed to be a heal bot, she’s like a peeling support who helps keep the tanks alive.

I am not on board any nerf Moira trains. With that said I have plenty of times watched my favorite top 500 DPS streamers get killed by Moira’s. As Moira you have it easier to output damage and maintain chaotic/random movement than anyone else in the game. Moira is extraordinarily forgiving to play.

I’m just saying that her damage and duel potential is much more powerful in low/mid tiers.

In higher tiers, Moira’s healing and ability to avoid getting focused with Fade is why she’s good.

So the community is basically talking about two heroes most of the time

Just to expand on what I was saying…

If you could create a mythical scenario where you could pair off different rank Moira’s vs higher ranked “other” heroes…how big a disparity between the 2 would you have to have before the higher ranked other hero wins the duel…and then compare that to different combinations of heroes

I’m pretty sure Moira would not just be the highest disparity…I think she would far exceed the rest…

(hopefully I described experiment properly)

A low/mid ranked Moira would feed against high ranked players, because they’d try to play way too greedy with Damage and get easily focused down and lose duels.

The playstyle would be all wrong. There’s actually a large difference between Moira players but it’s more gamesense and playstyle based

I just think her hit box is too small for her kit.

If she’s the main healer and dies for being too aggressive, then she’s throwing.
If she’s the off healer that kills the enemy supports, then she’s worth something.

Yeah, the skill check is for the player attacking her, not the Moira.

She might not be good at high rank but boy is it easy to get there with her.

I was playing Zen last night in Comp and an enemy Moira faded at me to kill me and I managed to kill her and give her the t-bagging she deserved. But yeah I agree, she was basically skill checking my ability to hit my shots with Zen and thankfully there I did.

Even high skilled players mess up sometimes.

Does anyone want a skill check? :smiling_imp:

The difference is the skill level she’s checking isn’t even close to her own input.

Bastion, at a basic level, is easy to play. Hence why he’s good in Bronze. But he’s also easy to counter, which is why he falls off quickly.

Moira, though? She’s easy at a basic level so people in Bronze play her a ton, thus her position as the most picked healer. But she then maintains that position up through Plat.

You’re not really just a mere “skill check” when you have to potentially climb up to 4 ranks to get good enough to outplay her.

And all that is ignoring the fact that she’s picking up momentum in GM again. If you’re good from Bronze to GM, what skill are you checking, and where does it stop?

But isn’t that sorta the point?

It doesn’t come down to Moira’s skill, it comes down to whether or not the enemy messes up.

Yes? Just because someone is high skill doesn’t mean they should be forgiven if they mess up.

Apparently the skill check is “Communication” and “teamwork”, my 2nd biggest weakness.

My first being “negative attitude” of course.
