Moira does feel powerful. And that should be the bar for healer kit potential

Rather than nerfing Moira at all, what if we made her the measuring stick for other healers? Should we balance healers around Moira for their equality? It’d make other healers more viable, and some of the lesser played ones more fun and engaging to play.

Two words answer this question. Power creep.

Blizzard hasn’t exactly cared about that before, and we’ve survived it up until now.

That’s not factually correct. A number of times overpowered heroes were brought down a notch.

Power Creep in what way?

Until Sigma came out, Ana was LEAGUES better than Moira, and even right now on Live Baptiste feels powerful and impactful.

It’s not really about increasing power as it is to give a defined actual purpose.

Moira is a good example (Well until she gets nerfed because of all the qq).

She was mediocre/ average until Plat, and then vanished into sub 1% usage. Suddenly a meta comes up that she works with, and now she’s playable.

Every support should have that moment of “Okay this is the best tool for the job” and not just; “Ana/ Zen/ Lucio as the only supports that can be playable”

Has Blizzard specifically said they nerfed a hero due to power creep, or are the heroes you’re talking about nerfed for some other PR reason they like to give?

Woudpnt this be healer creep though?

I mean they could do stuff that doesn’t even effect healing numbers

Give Brig’s barrier a bit more HP/ Faster recharge/ lower the CD on Shield Bash
Give Zen back his 30% Discord debuff

Mercy is probably the only one who actually needs SOME number tuning though that would effect HPS

Ana, Moira, Baptiste, and Lucio all have clear strengths and weaknesses

I’d personally prefer it if supports were balanced around someone like Ana or Lucio.

Healing in general is too strong and utility seems to be ignored in favour of more healing.

Brig, Ana, Lucio and Zen provide amazing utility.

Their generally low damage and mobility (except Lucio) keeps them from being played stupidly by people who want to try to dps with them. They can defend themselves if they need to but they aren’t designed for going in alone and killing everyone. They also tend to stick with either high healing for one person or mid-low healing for a group so they can’t constatly keep their entire team topped off and invalidate enemy damage.

Moving on to Moira.
She has high group healing, she has constant 100dps that she has direct control over half of.
Fade is the best defensive ability in the support roster. High mobility combined with invisibility and invulnerability, allowing her to instantly disengage, heal up and fade back in.
But despite all this, she has barely any utility.
Her utility comes from her ability to do high damage and healing at the same time which is taken further with her ult which ignores shields and is frequently used to initiate fights for the tanks.

Compare this to Zen. He has a heal which can be used to keep a teammate out of trouble, a damage boost that allows his team to mow down the enemy and his ult saves his team from anything outside a nano grav dragon.

Ana has pretty good single target healing, not the best but she makes up for it by having the best cc in the game with her sleep and also the best utility ability in the game in her grenade. She can deny healing which is really powerful and her ult allows a single teammate to become unstoppable.

Brigitte has low mobiity but makes up for it with her ability to disrupt the enemy team, deny damage and provide armour.

Lucio has arguably the worst heal in the game, but he can boost it to survive a fight, or switch to provide himself and his teammates a massive speed boost. His ult denies damage rather than outright healing so once it wears off, you may still be able to kill his team, it doesn’t completely reset a fight.

Moira does a lot of healing to her entire team while also being able to do a chunk of damage, and takes the responsibility of initiation away from her tanks, taking aspects from all 3 roles. In other words, don’t balance the game around her, we need more utility not more heals and certainly don’t let supports do similar damage to DPS. Is she OP? no. She just isn’t what should be used as the ideal support model.

Moira was the best and easiest healer. Balancing around that would mean making the difficult healers vastly more powerful. She is the outlier, the other supports are quite balanced; she needs to come back down to them, and the game does not need supports to be so powerful. Things should actually die in this game when there’s focused firepower.

Inb4 someone says powr cree-

Oh

Well, I support this because supports have had nothing but nerfs. It wouldn’t be power creep if we have healers some oomph again.

And unfortunately people can’t understand this concept.

The entire DPS roster has been power crept.

Then healing will be to overpowered and heros like genji tracer sombra wont be able to do anything with alot of healing in the game

Sure, let’s give all healers a Fade-type of ability.

I disagree, I think if any Support sets the stage for how everything should be measured, it’s Lucio.

Healing, decent but not overpowered damage, great utility, and all around simple to understand, hard to master. So far Ana, Baptiste, Lucio, Zen, all feel really solid. Brig I have not played enough to know, Mercy kinda feels good, but needs a little love and a more useful Ult. Moira is just…dumb.

Why should she be so easy for the value she has? It’s a perfect example of low risk and high reward right now. The game doesn’t need heroes like this.

Actually that’s partly true. He’s lowest at single-target healing. But if you do the math, if all of his teammates are in his healing circle then he vastly outshines all other healers. Even a 100% accuracy Ana with bionade on cooldown can’t compete with that amount of healing.

Because of the way the meta has shifted.

Ana was the most used support from Gold to GM right up until the Sigma patch where Moira came in.

She had the tools to survive in that environment that no other main healers had so she became used. Soon as we drift away from a meta and we have more breathing room, she’ll drop off again.

Moira is perfectly balanced. She has a powerful use when the time is right, and is average/ mediocre any other time

imo she’s fine. Not really powerful. Annoying at lower ranks and effective at high ranks, but not powerful.

If anything, they should give her an ammo gauge. I get she has a healing resource to manage, but NOT having to reload doesn’t feel right. Even if it’s not a traditional reload and it’s more like her taking a 1.5 second break after 10 seconds worth of lifestealing.

moira makes most damage in the game meaningless.
