Modifiers Breakdown?

I feel silly even doing a post for this but I seem to be having a hard time nailing down where to find this information, but does anyone have a source for a more detailed look into modifiers by chance?
I’m just not finding where anyone has really broken these down for the player base. Maybe it doesn’t exist, LOL, which if that’s the case, that’s fine, I guess.
I’m just the type of person that really likes to break down systems to truly understand how to work with them.

There’s nothing more detailed that the graphic they showed in the dev update sadly/luckily depending on how you feel about it.

If it helps, they are the same adjustments they’ve been applying for 7 years.

Dang. OK. That’s kind of what I had figured after not being able to find something like a YT video or anything.
I hope, that maybe, they will update at least the info captions in-game then.
For instance, Volatile, the description of that modifier makes no sense to me whatsoever and I think it’s just the way it’s written.
“You lost matches after calibration matches.” really doesn’t tell me what that modifier does, specifically, and it hit me like a mac truck with -30% and deranked me, LOL.

I had finished calibration matches quite a few matches ago prior to being hit with that too.

I think that means you lost games after your placements. Could be wrong, but that’s my immediate reaction to that.

Yeah, mine too.
Just weird timing. I’d lost a few matches prior to that and never saw that and I’d finished placements several days beforehand. :woman_shrugging:
The only thing that I can think of is that I’d lost 3 matches in a row, so perhaps that’s what caused it, but if so, then that really doesn’t make sense to me.
Oh well.

Yea same modifiers they always had but little impact. And they don’t make sense. I got volatile as well AFTER calibration. The only excuse I can give it is if you drop below a rank but it wants to hang onto the shiny pixels of the higher rank.

So yea, placements, then calibration, then regular losses, then volatile as if I did something wrong.

Meanwhile I got some bad news - even though these modifiers been there for awhile - it just goes to show how much little they do. I was told big swings after win streaks… of the two win streaks that I hit, 8, and 6. The win streak MODIFIER add very little to the base win, 1-2 points.

Of the 3 uphills, NOTHING extra to the base. I had gotten regular wins with greater gains than uphills. I GOT REGULAR WIN GAINS GREATER THAN UPHILLS. Sorry I think I got myself started on the hidden biggest let down (to me) of S9.

I tracked like the first couple of NOTHING modifiers in another post I did. Luckily I haven’t even seen the loss streaks YET cause since the system is still the same, I’m sure once I hit a certain point cough losers queue cough :mask::mask::sneezing_face::face_with_thermometer: I’m sure I’ll see the losers modifier and the expected but lost / and got stomped icons with huge swings down.

A little more on “modifiers” always being there. It’s because every game has an expected winner, and an expected loser. It’s like machine learning classification. Machine learning even has certainty values of the predicted outcome go figure. So the whole rank system is “beat the machine”. Win when you’re not expected, and win when you are expected. Lose only when you’re expected to lose if you must. So if every game has an underdog then why 90% of the games of NO MODIFIERS??!!

Yeah, I feel you. I just had this happen as a support where I was placed with a bronze 2 group against a gold 3 group.
We won. Somehow.
And it’s not like it was easy, LOL.
But afterwards, I was stoked “Yay! Uphill battle gains!”

No. Didn’t even get the modifier, LOL.
Coolcoolcool.
IDK. It’s whatever, I guess. I’ll just put that excited part out of my mind when it comes to competitive.
I had hope that this would be a game changer, not as much now, so moving on and adjusting the mindset after seeing the changes in action.

Now, Zen on the other hand?
That will be Tilt City.
If I get one more Zen in my matches obliterating the entire team within 10 seconds, I might scream. Internally. Because my partner is still sleeping. So.

Volatile means you lost matches after you ranked up or are close to deranking. Kinda a BS modifier when you are ranking down and have a losing streak. Whats the point of playing and ranking down when you’re getting a much higher penalty?

To be honest, I have had most games not tell me why my rank has gone up or done. There is a serious issue with people leaving and our rank not being taken into consideration of that circumstance. If you are going to base our rank off our team then you need to require everyone join voice chat. There are too many games where people are not in voice chat, miss calls, and ruin the game for EVERYONE. Are you a team based game or not? If team based communications are optional then my rank shouldn’t depend on THEIR performance. Get real and fix things.
