đź“´ New Forum: Balance Discussions?

Maybe not the best name (Change Discussion? Suggestions? Hero Discussion?), but hear me out.

So all these “nerf Hero A” or “Ability B is OP” or “C needs a buff” threads that show up over and over can safely be tucked in their own forum. Maybe then you could even pin megathreads for each hero.

There are some fun topics in general, as well as some really valid and calm debates, but it feels like wading through a crowd of screaming toddlers to get to them.

I don’t see how adding a new forum will fix the problems with the forums. I haven’t really looked at anything on the forums in like a week.

The problem is that aside from Reddit there isn’t anywhere else I know of for people to talk. I’m sure Reddit has lots of the same problems the forums does so.

What I think before balancing a hero comes in mind, we need to discuss ways of chanaging the overall gameplay of every character. Why? Well for one the reliance on Meta Strategies gets quite old fast, which creates issues with people not wanting to play the meta on daily basis for this one simple fact and when changes are made to combat the meta on a developer stand point, heroes get buffed to a point where they become so overpowered that balancing a hero becomes more of an issue.

I think introducing ways to add attributes to a hero in some for a fashion where it be card loadout attribute system like Paladins, Weapon and armor attributes, Skins giving varying degrees of attributes to a hero or something of that fashion. This would allow differing degrees of game play strategies that could solve some issues with metas, balancing etc.

With attributes, a player could have differing degrees of attributes affecting different styles of game play for heroes across the board. This would allow creative game play styles and also it could help elevate some of the burden on those developing the back end of hero baseline attributes.

I’m not opposed to talking, quite the opposite! I just think it’s a topic that’s both so heated and so popular, it would be nice to have a special place for it. Threads like this often descend into heated arguments… and often, it’s the same points being repeated.

For people who enjoy debate, that’s fine! But a side-effect of heated debate is it they’re not only constantly rocketed to the top by the back-and-forth, but ultimately with so many of the topics covering the same thing, it’s literally 80% of what you see on the forums.

With something so prominent, it would make sense to give it its own space. This would also free up General to have as wider variety of discussions.

@Faldorash

That’s an interesting idea, and also why I proposed “Suggestions” as a possible title for said forum. It wouldn’t necessarily be relegated to just the typical nerf/buff debate that way.

It’s a good idea because it organizes the forums better. Instead of filling through the truckloads of “nerf this!” Threads they’d have their own area where you can discuss them better.

I don’t know why these forums are layed out so badly but it needs a huge improvement

This is what OP means. That doesn’t say Balance Discussions. That’s an entirely different subject

Fair enough.

I think a simple change of description is all that is necessary, if thats truly the issue.

It would be much more efficient to, as opposed to making an entirely new thread for practically the same discussion.

The thing I like about the forums is the lack of downvotes.

r/overwatch is 99% just highlights and jokes. There’s no discussion happening there except on specific main’s subreddits (r/sombramains).

If you attempt to start a discussion on r/overwatch, there’s nothing good that is going to happen. You’ll likely get downvoted. Of the dozens of posts I’ve put on there, only 2 have gotten above 10 upvotes.

Meanwhile, on the forums, downvotes are gone so players are more likely to see what I have to say and then agree or disagree in somewhat civil discourse. On reddit, they don’t have to give a reason why they’re downvoting you, even though it’s against rediquette to downvote something that’s not trolling/off topic/etc.

People forget rediquette too much over there and there’s nothing you can do except hope unpopular ideas get discussed and the right people see it shortly. 5 people can ruin your entire post on Reddit. On the forums, your opinion gets seen if someone comments.

@SlimSlader

I suspect that people might resent the loss of a place to talk about Competitive strategies/meta though. There’s so little diversity in the forums here, another wouldn’t hurt, and this would encompass a lot of the discussion that has General swamped.

@Sprinkles298

No one’s saying that has to change, though! In fact, a dedicated forum would help you find more people who are actually willing to engage with you and listen, because that’s what they’re there for.

That’s a pretty good idea. Sounds like a lot of work setting all the threads up tho.
