Missing "taking damage" audio

gonna attempt another bug report for the same bug that has been haunting me since launch OW2.

Sometimes there is no audio indication when you get hit by someone. If you are affected by this bug, it applies to ALL enemy heroes hitting you for the duration of this issue. It also applies to any damage ability they use. If they hit you, you just dont hear it. The only way to know is if you look at your health bar. dying seems to reset everything back to “working” but the bug can return later in the same match/round. (dying helps 90% of the time)

A very important detail with this bug is that its ONLY the getting hit audio that does not work. im not talking about footsteps, ult voice lines, or muffled audio. the getting hit audio is just entirely missing. direction also DOES NOT matter.

One example: soldier is shooting you from the right. There is 0 audio indicating he is shooting you. Unless you look at your hp bar, you LITERALLY have no clue youre getting shot at. This doesnt only apply to primary fire. If he would helix you in your face, the only indication you have in this case is the small knockback. (direction example used to explain how annoying it can be in those situations, it has nothing to do with directional audio in general)

Another example: Junkerqueen. When she hits you with her knife, you get a bleeding effect. Usually, you can hear the bleeding happening (that little tssk tssk sound.) if you are affected by this bug, you dont even hear this sound at all.

yet another example: brig whiplash. it has a very clear BONK sound when you get hit by it. this also counts as dealing damage which means this is completely silent too.

i can add a lot more examples but here is one more interesting one: Ashe dynamite. when you get hit by the dynamite, you are on fire. the fire ITSELF still has sound, but the tick damage youre taking is completely missing.

If this bug is happening to you, you DONT HEAR ANY INCOMING DAMAGE regardless of what ability or weapon your opponent is using. it even happens with echo’s sticky bombs directly on your screen. that audio is also just not there. I also have a clip of wrecking ball mines not having audio of all things.

This bug can happen while playing any hero, and can happen against any enemy hero. So far its completely random when it happens and it usually goes away when dying, or goes away randomly. (But not all the time)

Now the things ive tried to fix this myself in case its a me issue and not a bug in the game

-reinstalled the game

-reinstalled on different drive

-replaced entire pc (motherboard, memory sticks, CPU, GPU, PSU, cooler, pc case)

-replaced other hardware (headset, mouse, keyboard, monitor)

-used older crappy headphones

-fresh/clean new windows install and played OW with NOTHING ELSE installed (no browsers + discord either)
issue stayed after swapping from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

-reset all audio settings in Windows and triple checked my Spatial audio to see if its still disabled (has always been disabled, people suggested turning this off. using headphones that dont even support spatial audio does not help)

I also have video proof of this issue! here is a link. the first 17 seconds give a VERY CLEAR example of what the issue is. (and those 2 clips were both recorded in the same match) most clips have been forced recorded to catch proof and are from older seasons, but this issue is still present during season 20 Drives.

audio issue video

im not the only one with this issue either. people i play with sometimes experience it too, but less often than me. ive also noticed OW creators on YT having the bug, but probably dont notice it.
