Mind to fix the mixed up ranks in comp?

Because should never exist that a diamond can que with golds. And if I am plat gold or whatever I have to play vs other gold or plats.

is this hard to to dear devs?

gold with golds plat with plats etc

Maybe you could tell them how to do that without making queue times even longer? The MM has to use what it has or wait forever to get what is ideal. Either it expands the range of SR but still keeps the teams balanced (whatever it was - within 48-52% chance to win for each team) or you wait even longer for a game.

Of course the real problem is that DPS (you know, the ones complaining about queue times) come on the forums and complain about hog, rein, etc. and want nerfs and then they nerf them and more tank players leave and queue times get longer. DPS players are their own worst enemy. They complain both about tanks and want them nerfed and in their next post complain about queue times, which are caused by tanks being so bad to play because they keep getting nerfed.

There’s a lot of players who don’t care about this especially since they’re playing tanks and supports so this will never be an issue for them, especially at ranks that OP is describing which are the most populated ranks in the game

The easiest way to please everyone is to give players the option to opt for a longer queue to get more quality games so the queue won’t rush them through the process. That way everyone wins since you can still use the regular queue which is pure gambling these days or you could choose to have your input mean more in the game at the cost of less gambling a.k.a. longer queue

I don’t give a thing about a longer queue but a decent mm. I’m not a dev.

It is easy to do!
We just have the queue length blow out WAY more than it is now.
Like a whole lot more.

Generally that would just increase the queue length for everyone

Literally would be impossible to find games higher you go, do you think GMs only play with GMs?

Even in Diamond I’m constantly thrown between Masters and Plats

lul, say hello to boosting market =) The only way to controll this stupid matchmaker is to artificially decrease your mmr to get balanced matches. Now imagine that the golden guy is actually gm/booster and the diamond guy is getting boosted to masters. Blow your mind.

So, throw because you don’t enjoy playing against people of your own skill level?

If there would be such a thing as “your skill level” in this game instead of complete RNG combined with ppl behavior in a team based game, there wouldn’t be such problems in a first place. It is you to decide how to get fun of all of that mess. I prefer to just stay away from this game until I get paid for the amount of tryhard you need to do in order to make the account of one rank to become the another rank. And if you’re just genuinely asking, the answer is more YES than NO. Ppl want to have a tiny drop of control over their matches. Not all of them smurfing just because they are suck in “their rank” they just avoid the stupidity of this game and devs. But to be able to actually see how stupid it is, you need some actual in-game experience, you need to make it your job at some point. But most players are just complaining to complain without any clue about how things working here.

Like say, forming a team, and playing in contenders trials, and getting paid for it?
Or say, working on matchmakers professionally?
Or doing analytics as a job?

Anything that you can imagine, don’t want to hard ToS this forum =)
2nd is close one =)

fair enough

I did all of these things, and I still think the game while flawed isn’t bad. But I DO think it is flawed.

I just don’t agree that roleQ was the problem, but how they then tuned the game which after making a bet that the Tank / Supports work hang around at the same rate as DPS, which cased a bunch of them to leave in a greater percentage.

That I think was a problem.

Game itself still has no competitor, it is awesome, but it needs another development than it had for all the time. Different approach. There should be a strong borderline between competitors and casuals. And devs that will not try to please both, putting them in the same pool.

I’m actually more on board with this than you may think. I don’t think they can make both groups happy and either need to choose one, or split the game.

Personally, I think they are trying to make the pro’s more happy, and I suspect that will backfire, since… for pro play to work for Blizzard, they will need enough people who will watch the pro games.

And I can only see that group shrinking as time goes on. Most “pro play” games started as fun games, and the pro scene came out of it.

WIthout a playerbase, the pro scene can’t really work.

A game can have a pro scene even if it isn’t balanced towards pros, but it can’t have one if it doesn’t have enough people playing it.

But maybe this is why PvE? so they can split the playerbase that way?

Thanks god they are smart enough to understand that pro-play and competition is the engine of any game esp. when it comes to an FPS games. This engine gathers all the interest around the game if the game developed the right way and has place for both essences. But even here, speaking about pro play, they have chosen the stupidest way for e-sports, making this “unfriendly” league, without any actual path to pro for t2-t3 scene. Freaking franchise of nothing. Then goats, stupid hero designs, can’t balance their own game, what owl they do, dudes, wake up. Sorry that is just me speaking with my mind =)

I am SUPER surprised they didn’t put a “prebuilt” team tourney mode in OW for this exact reason.

I get it, but I think Goats is a more complex problem then it first looks.

Say, you made a couple of roles, which were heavily tied together, and acted as multiplies for each others power IF the team is super organized.

Then you run into a problem…

Either you tune for GM/OWL play, in which case they will play like garbage in mid ranked play where most of your players are, and you lose your player base for those roles.

Or, you tune for mid ranked play, in which case, goats goats goats.

Blizzard of course did Blizzard things, and restricted it so you couldn’t have Goats, and THEN made them garbage to play in mid ranks, losing the players anyway.

I get it, they didn’t want them being super impactful in high ranks.

But they could have done the same thing by making sure DPS were ALSO tied to support the same way tanks were.

But then people would complain that DPS were underpowered, and needed boosting to make work… But it would mean that they could be strong in high ranks, and less strong in mid, like the supports and tanks are, so you could keep the support / tank players, AND have a working GM / OWL balance.

And so it goes.

Either way, what they did didn’t work very well.

But that wouldn’t work either because it would rely on enough players selecting that option. Those that don’t will constantly cycle through the queues more quickly and not wait around for those that are sitting waiting for a better quality match. You could essentially wait forever and then find that, even though the MM used a smaller range of SR and worked out the probability for each team to win was within 4%, the match could still be awful depending on which heroes people choose on which map.

There are too many variables and you would come back and complain that you waited extra time and the games are still bad. The MM can do nothing about what heroes people choose and whether a team works well together and communicates.

What you are asking is impossible and the MM is doing an ok job with what it has and the number of variables that go into making a good match. You just have to play QP to see how much better MM is in comp than QP.

No that isn’t a problem, the system can wear that. You will only be matched if the game can make a better matched game, even if it involves people who selected for faster worse matches.

The problem is the people who have shorter queues (tank / support) will pick it more (since it will effect them less) and the cost will be pushed on to the DPS.

The DPS will have longer queues for every tank or support player which chooses it. The cost of their choice isn’t felt by the person making the choice, it is externalized from them.

This is one of the biggest problems facing ow since OWL was started and it’s barely ever talked about on here,Ty for bringing it up

Speaking about GOATS, which lead the game to the 2-2-2 state, and it doesn’t work, because if ppl only like “vanilla ice cream they will not q as tank, thus we give them more of desired flavor!” – as Jeff mentioned, trying 1-3-2.
I hope 5v5 will solve the issue, because they don’t know how to balance the tank role and make it playable at the same time, and not being overpowered as it is.
Why don’t they let the game stay in openQ state by just limiting tank pick by 2 heroes max per team? I wish I could play openQ nowadays, but as soon as you reach diamond rank the q time here increases because not enough players are playing, thus I have multiple accounts hard stuck in mid-masters because I can not even find a game there. They eventually split the community to many modes instead of fixing the actual issue in a way I described (by limiting tank’s pick number). Now the same problem is revolving around GM lobbies, same faces from game to game mixed up with some alts of the same players. Even tanks has like 10-15 min q of that.
