Correct? nothing changes?
Developers would likely join Microsoft’s unions. Maybe Bing Rewards get a better discount?
There is no point in microsofts acquisition history that would make me think anything would change
I could see them adding more benefits for game pass subscribers. All new heroes unlocked immediately for example. Overwatch is not the number one priority here for them. Call of Duty is.
We are in a state of constant flux - something is always changing - somewhere - right now the particles around you are changing and reacting to each other.
Everything changes - everything is in flux - unite in spirit and become one with the universe.
Correct. The state of the game remains exactly the same once it’s done.
Bobby Kotick would be out, that’d be the biggest change.
No Bobby K will be the greatest change. Which I truly hope happens if MS takes over.
Well, microsoft makes more money.
But aside from that, yeah, nothing changes, lol
P sure both him and MSFT said he’d be stepping down after the acquisition.
Imo the hope is that there’s more bandwidth for the teams to focus on making good games and not more skins to sell.
What changes is no more Bobby Kotic. People who’ve actually been following how he has effected development know this is a huge win for the devs and it absolutely will make the games better.
The original idea was to gold parachute the guy out. This was put on standby for now, but the general public voice seriously wants Kotick out of this company, Microsoft likely is aware of this and probably will step in.
The deal is probably gonna go through garanteed, just need it to be done before the end of the financial year so that we can kick him out on time.
I’m curious, do people that play candy crush and cod feel this way also?
I know diablo 4 made $666 million in 5 days, so he maybe is doing something right?
There would probably be more control in the hands of the teams and less frustrating decisions being made by the out of touch Acti-Blizz higher ups, whom the current OW Devs constantly complain about on Twitter for being the source of many of OW’s issues.
But also I don’t think we are ever getting a full PvE mode with talent trees back so if that’s all people care about for OW then no, nothing will really change
I see people complain about the new CoD all the time on Twitter
But in general the trend of Blizz has been positive the past few game releases. WoW Dragonflight was very positively received, Diablo 4 has been very well received, and OW2 was on the upwards trend before the PvE cancellation announcement.
I some of it has to do with Devs started calling out Bobby’s and other higher up’s behavior very publically last year online, and it was even basically said he’d be gone when Microsoft takes over
So the higher ups haven’t been hurting their brand at all then. In fact, the opposite? Despite all the children on these forums crying about “bobby” and whatnot, haha.
Then they should be fired, lol. Or wait, was it just people that WERE fired already?
Twitter and these forums are funny, because these, and those, few people, don’t really matter, at all. Even D:I with it’s “crazy hatred!” made like $1 million a day, for months.
The only thing anyone with a brain looks at is $, and blizzard is actually doing really well right now. Despite what kids cry about on these forums. If the games were terrible, people wouldn’t pay.
The dead will rise. /j
Depends on your expectations. Someone with shares in the company wants to see big $ even if it comes at the cost of everything else. A player may be more interested in entertainment value. Those two things aren’t fully compatible, there is a balance between multiple factors.
Selling skins through in-game Gucci stores can be profitable without adding much entertainment value. A company that makes its money by selling skins won’t put as much effort into game design and gameplay content.
In the past everyone paid for gameplay content and entertainment. These days only a small percentage of the playerbase pays for skins motivated by their vanity. It’s easy to see how this can lead to lower quality video games.
A typical video game makes most of the money when the game is young. This makes long term support (e.g.: gameplay content releases through a live service game) less interesting so game design can be “shallow” because the goal is keeping casuals around for a few months - that isn’t a high bar.
No, it’s current Devs too Devs who have quit and Devs who are currently still working at Blizz. I actually haven’t seen anything from Devs who have been “fired”. And I think it’s super gross that you think workers should be fired for voicing discontent with malpractices that the hire ups are committing. Yikes.
Defending a man and practices that are actively driving away talent and causing extremely valuable industry professionals to quit and go work at other companies just because the games are making money is gross
Luckily Bobby will be gone when Microsoft takes over and that’s a big W for all the workers at Blizz who have expressed how horrible he is
So if your employee publicly slammed your company, you wouldn’t fire them?
I don’t know if you’ve ever worked for a company, but, you would be fired if you did that, lol. And rightfully so.
Paying attention to the inner workings of a video game company is gross, lol.
If you like the game, play it. If you don’t, don’t play it. Does that really need to be said? lol
I mean I assume a horrible boss would want to fire people who call out his horrible behavior and practices, yes. Luckily that’s what things like unions and different labor codes like California Labor Code section 232.5 are for.
I like Overwatch, I play it. I also am glad that the workers speak out against the horrible higher ups and that it seems that said higher ups will be gone after the acquisition. Change doesn’t result from silence.
