So apparently Activision blizzard is getting $3 billion in breakup fees from Microsoft upon merger failing to complete on 18th July…
Wonder what they could do with the money?
I can’t help but think of all of the possibilities…
They could give overwatch a major overhaul…
DLSS support…
Port it to all the different systems including Mac…
And they’d still have change left over…

is this a guaranteed thing?

ohhhh, even more egregious monetization.

They should invest some of it towards restarting and completing PVE development.
However this is Activision we are talking about. We will be lucky if even some of it reaches the development team.

I could see it being spread generously between the top executives for a job well done after doing nothing but waiting a year to see if the merger goes through

Stop trying to make it happen, its not happening
Also anyone thinking money will be invested into the game is just delusional, we all know it will go to Bobby’s yatch fund

Well they just added FSR 2.2 so there’s no reason they couldn’t add DLSS…
It’s the same underlying technology…
But yeah the money is probably going to go into mobile because that’s the biggest moneymaker…
I could see there potentially being an overwatch mobile port?
And Mac port would basically be an extension of that since it’s the same underlying architecture as mobile now heh…

It’s renegotiable. It’s possible the terms can change if the acquisition looks to still be going through.

Don’t worry, Bobby will make sure to blot it all up. Can’t leave a pile of money laying around out in the open for others at the company to stumble upon. Someone might get hurt!

Just enough for Bobby’s fifth new yacht

CEO bonus, stock dividend, stock buyback.
Also, they will intentionally log and burn a few thousand acres of virgin rainforest - whatever a billion buys you. Kotick has weird kinks.

Whatever really happens, I’m not expecting anything significant to go towards investment in their games to fix them up. Overwatch in particular seems to be taking lower priority over their other active live service games for funding and support.

If the deal doesn’t go through, it will be interesting to watch the takes of players. Before it was the hope that they would get rid of management that would make things better. Now it will be the hope that they invest money into the game?
We’re running low on things to hope for.
I honestly don’t see why people think this is going to make the game any better for the players. Out with the old business overlord and in with the new.

Tbh, at this point, I’m not holding high hopes for anything in the short or medium term. Maybe with the current team under new management, around a year from now we might notice something major, unless Microsoft decided to double or triple down on Overwatch and pump a lot of resources into it overnight. But there is much needed investment—money and talented creative manpower—to steer this this ship around.
That said, so many of us have gotten so good at waiting… what’s another year longer, right?

speaking of money and $$billions i just learned today that there is an asteroid worth $700 quintillion dollars. if only i could bring that back to the earth somehow…
$700 quintillion?
I’m pretty sure dumping that much in riches on Earth that would single-handedly crash the entire world economy. You wouldn’t be rich for long, even if you laid claim to the entire asteroid.

There hasn’t even been news that they’re doing such a thing yet, I think we should all be waiting to see what happens instead of just coming to conclusions here.
