Mic works on battle net but NOT in game. I can't even joinvc

I’ve been searching this issue for weeks. None of the other posts in this forum have been helpful. The troubleshooting voice chat article doesn’t help. Opening the ports does not help.

Essentially, I am forced to use other apps or even the battle.net app to communicate with people playing overwatch. I cannot join the ingame voice channel to even listen to anyone else. My microphone does not show up on the list of available sound devices. In fact, it is like this on both my main pc and alt pc. This is very frustrating and I’m surprised to have not found anyone with this issue online besides those threads which seem abandoned shortly after creation. I’m looking for a final solution to this problem as it’s pretty unreasonable to not be able to access the ingame voice channels.

You may be on a network that blocks the voice protocol the game uses. Who is your ISP?

Hi Nicole, it’s AT&T

AT&T landline service (i.e. cable or fiber), or AT&T wireless/5G?

It’s landline, fiber. I should also note that another thread recommended trying a vpn, that didn’t work either.

What kind of headset is it? Make and model please

I’m not using a headset. I know that players can connect to the voice channel without a mic whatsoever, I’m trying to solve that problem first because I don’t want to get caught in a situation of “that mic isn’t compatible” or whatever. Like, I should be able to connect to the voice channel itself to hear my teammates regardless of whether my mic would hypothetically work ingame or not lol

HI, i cannot hear my teammates on ps5. Is this a common issue? I’m not muted. Thanks

Okay, to be specific, how is the audio device connected to the PC? I don’t know if the voice channel works if there is no comms device detected; I’m a volunteer and not a developer.

Okay well this might sound confusing as it’s a bunch of broadcasting stuff but…

I have a AT897, which is an audio technica condenser shotgun microphone connected via xlr to a zoom h4n which is connect to my pc via a audio line in (3.5mm) to usb ATR2x (an Audiotechnica usb interface for audio). I tried it both ways though by removing the USB interface and just having the mic straight xlr to 3.5mm into the pc, it doesn’t change anything. The mic works all various ways plugged in via the battle net launcher voice chat and discord, and everything, OBS studio too. I normally use Nvidia Broadcast to filter out background audio but it doesn’t matter whether I select Nbroadcast or the line in or the USB interface. None of those options appear ingame via the settings.

It’s hard for me to say whether a mic must be connected to join the voice channel because I am not on other people’s pcs to see how they’ve joined but I have a couple people I play with that don’t have mics that are able to join the voice chat ingame. I don’t know if they have something else connected or detected as a mic to trick the game into letting them…I just kind of assumed that everyone should be able to join the vc with or without mics.

I follow you on the setup. Can you add a DxDiag here?

You may need to put it on Pastebin.com and provide the hash code if it doesn’t fit.

Sure, thank you so much.

I didn’t forget to check back, but there’s a hurricane outside atm

Regarding this, I don’t think it will show up because the device is not set to capture sound in the Windows sound manager.

            Description: Microphone (ATR2x-USB)
  Default Sound Capture: No
  Default Voice Capture: No

What happens when you try? Or is the button greyed out?
