Even though Mercy as a character wasn’t exactly super strong in the later stages of OW1, she was always more viable and less of a burden than she is now.
Back in OW1, I felt like I could play her all the time.
Sure it wouldn’t be the best option but at least I wouldn’t feel like I was actively sabotaging which ever team I was on.
Especially Rez really feels out of place in OW2, as losing the tank already means losing the fight and there is just less room for Rez to be impactful with one less tank.
I’ve never had problems ranking up solo in OW1 but in OW2 it’s just so fun.
It might just be nostalgia speaking but I miss that feeling…

I could see it from her going from her fabulous iconic legendary OW1 haircut to that OW2’s Karen haircut.
I’m not a mercy player but this is probably just objectively true? I mean there’s a lot more pressure on supports to… Well, output pressure. Mercy herself can’t really do that too well so she relies on who she damage boosts which puts mercy at their mercy (sorry I had to)
Sometimes I would rather not get damage boosted because it makes me feel as a DPS that I essentially now have to do twice as much to make up for the fact that my mercy +1s me too. So in that regard I’ve never been a big fan of the character to begin with and maybe that biases my opinion
Rez really doesn’t fit in the game anymore. I mean it has its place as a one shot counter but id personally rather just not have one shots in the game to begin with so is that even a positive thing?
It’s too reactive and has literally no proactive use which often just makes it kinda boring to use. Any time I play mercy I feel like I maybe get 1 or 2 rezes per 10 if I’m lucky. Half the time it feels more valuable to just keep DMG boosting or healing rather than risk a Rez

Bring back 5 man rez NOW.

Yall remember when mercy had a winrate so high that the devs hard coded it into competitive that if you played mercy you got less Comp Ranking
“hard coded?” That’s a load of baloney.
Classic Mercy simply didn’t have as many stats for the SR system to track (this was before “players saved” was a tracked stat), and the ones she did have weren’t clear indicators of performance… which made it harder for the SR system to gauge a Mercy player’s performance on stats alone (e.g. the “players rezzed” stat of genuinely good Classic Mercy players tended to be on the lower side, bc they were very good at triage & preventing teammates from dying in the first place).
THAT’S why she got less comp ranking.

the rework totally ruined her. All they had to was add LoS checks to rez, a short cast time, and maybe a small burst heal for still living allies to encourage not saving rez for 4/5 mans but using it on just 2 allies or something. That would have been so much better.
Now valk is the most boring ult ever, with rez as the most boring glorified emote of an ability ever, and no one really cares about mercy anymore. Back in ow1 you were everyone’s primary target no matter what, so you really had to keep zipping around. It could be challenging and fun. Now you just sit behind a corner while you pocket ashe

they’ll have to bring back 6v6 first lol, 4 man rez they could swing
Mercy was never healthy but 5v5 surely gave her more advantage.
If the devs were smart and business savvy they’d bring back Mass Rex for 6v6.
The Mercy Mafia returns they will move that Mercy Merch

I sure hope they do (provided that it’s a version of mass rez that requires LoS and has a short cast time).
I miss the feeling of making cool, flashy lifesaver plays with Mercy’s old rez ult. I miss the iceberg effect it had on Mercy’s core gameplay loop, how far it pushed her risk/reward factor to encourage taking lots of calculated risks, and the addicting “buildup/payoff” loop it added to Mercy’s playstyle.
Sure, Valkyrie has it’s uses, but it both feels and performs like a middle-of-the-road cooldown ability. Every time I play Current Mercy, I mentally apologize to my team for picking the one support hero that doesn’t have an ultimate.
