Mercy doesn’t have a phoenix skin…

Lunar new year legendary skin.

Zhuque is her “Phoenix”/Vermilion Bird skin.

I think they were trying to say that it wasn’t actually a phoenix. Though they could have done that in a better way.

Eh, its the best i could come up with on the fly mostly because it could be recognized as such and i couldnt remember the name at the time

Understandable. It is sometimes called a phoenix instead in a lot of media for reasons i don’t actually understand. But they are very similar beasts and the phoenix makes sense for Mercy.

Wrong, she does have a phoenix skin.

We…just covered this.

“Vermilion sparrow” - fire bird - Phoenix… I knew exactly what you were talking about as would anyone.

Regardless, if you post false information expect to be corrected. The Zhuque skin is a phoenix (according to the Official PlayOverwatch website)

Plus it literally said “Mercy’s Zhuque (Red Phoenix) skin” on the official PlayOverwatch website, it’s a phoenix.

The Zhuque (朱雀) is a vermilion bird that’s correct, but the phoenix is the Fenghuang (凤凰). In the future, do your research before spreading misinformation on the forums.

Truth be told it’s actually not me, it’s from the Official PlayOverwatch website. I can’t link it, but this is from the patch notes on the website: "This year, we’re celebrating Lunar New Year with over 50 seasonal items including legendary skins like Red Phoenix (Zhu Que) Mercy.” Saying they are “spreading misinformation” is one way to put it. In reality they merely mixed up the names because it’s pretty clear they intended her to be a Phoenix. You just have to swap Zhuque with Fenghuang

And Blizzard is wrong to call the skin a phoenix, and they never intended it to be one. Do you know anything about the lore of the skins? They’re suppose to be based on the four Chinese constallations, which the phoenix is not apart of. They probably call it “red phoenix” just as a layman’s term for people who are ignorant of Chinese culture. I wished they hadn’t done that, they should be using the skin’s authentic names.

I wish they’d make it so the text on the mug is always visible during the victory screen. Half the time it’s at an angle where it just looks like a blank white mug.

Yes I heard about how the skins are based off of the 4 Chinese symbols. The Red Phoenix and the Vermilion Bird do look fairly similar so I suppose they figured it didn’t matter much. Maybe they also liked how “Zhuque” and “Red Phoenix” sounded over “Fenghuang” and “Vermilion Bird” Honestly I dk, only blizzard knows what goes through blizzard’s head.
