Mercy Tips and Tricks

A LOT of people have been commenting on how Mercy doesn’t feel as good, as fun, etc etc. I myself have been guilty of wanting more from my main character, but nonetheless, I decided instead of talking about what everyone else is talking about, I figured I would break Mercy down and give you some ways to play her, explain her stuff for new/returning people and be civil about it.

NOTE: The way I personally play Mercy and the way others or professionals play her will differ. This is my Mercy, not yours

Regeneration (Passive):

  • The way this little gem works is after not getting hit for a second, you start to regen your health. Simple and it heals a good amount

Angelic Decent:

  • When you hold the space bar (or whatever keybind you have) you will slow fall. Think mage only you can move while slow falling

Caduceus Staff:

  • This is your tool of the trade. Pressing and hold left click will lock onto to a ally and heal them.
  • Pressing and hold right click will give your ally a damage boost. It also works in combination with a Mcree ult (for example) to speed up the lock process
  • If you go too far away from your target or break line of sight the beam will break after a second too

Caduceus Blast:

  • If you want a more…hands on roll, pull this baby out and go to town. Remember, these bullets are more like ping pong balls as opposed to mcree bullets, they have a travel time so lead accordingly. If you put the gun away before reloading, it will auto reload after 2 sec.

Guardian Angel:

  • By pressing your shift key you will fly at the ally in your cross hairs if they are close enough. If you press shift during GA, it will cancel it and you will drop. If you jump while using GA you will “sling shot” to go further than your target, but not by much

Resurrect:

  • One of the hot topic tools in our kit is the ability to rez a fallen ally. BE WARNED, this spell is not instant, DO NOT cast it in the open unless you are sure you will not be killed because if you are, it will go on CD and the rez will fail. You are also slowed by 75% during the cast of 2 sec

Valkyrie:

  • And here we arrive at the most controversial tool, our ult. Basically what it does it simple, when turned on your healing and damage beams from your staff have increased range, your GA is increased in range, your pistol has infinite ammo AND your healing and damage beam split and can chain to other nearby allies. Oh and you can fly too

Now, will the tools out of the way, lets get to some tips.

  • Just because you CAN fly with your ult doesn’t mean you SHOULD. When you turn on puppy on, you are a flying billboard. If you know they have a decent Widow or a 76, don’t fly up, stay near the ground
  • You are slowed by your rez yes. But the range on your rez can allow you to start it and walk back behind a wall. You are slowed, not immobile
  • NEVER go for a rez that is way off in the distance. Just because you can rez, doesn’t mean you should try and use it on over extenders. You are a fragile egg, don’t take unnecessary risks
  • I personally rarely use gun outside of ult if I can spare time from healing. If you want to try for POTG, get a kill or 2 and get a rez, bam POTG.
  • Save the tank healing for last. You have 2-3 DPS that deal more damage usually and are quicker to heal, get them safe then worry about tank.
  • If you can, keep rez on CD, but like I said, don’t lose your head cause its off CD
  • USE YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL CONSTANTLY. A moving target is alot harder to hit. Try to fly to a further out target, never stay in the middle of the pack, it leaves no room for escape
  • Do NOT stand still. Our job may be boring at times, but you do not relax until it says Victory on your screen
  • Don’t forget you have your melee strike keybind, if a weak Genji wants to come at you bruh, thwack him in the head IF you think it will kill him
  • WDSA is a good finger movement on the keyboard to make you walk in a circle, its good for idle moments.
  • Try and get your team to tell you how close to ult they are, if the pharah is ready, get ready to damage boost her.

And last, but not least…DO NOT listen to the crap about “meta” and “nerfs”. You read this guide because you like Mercy and want to get better on her. There is no such thing as a meta. A “meta” is only who is the strongest or most popular at this time, it does NOT mean that if Mercy is out of the meta that she is weak or can’t be played. Play who YOU want to, its your money. Don’t let others decide what you should play, play what you want

Thanks <3

This is a good thread, I hope it helps people who can still find joy in playing Mercy (I’m still trying lol).

Just want to point this out:

I disagree with this almost 100%. Most cases, keeping the tanks alive is more important. If your tanks die, the DPS will soon follow almost every time, because without protection or space provided by the tanks there’s little a DPS can do to stay alive by themselves. Plus, the tanks protect you, and your goal should always be staying alive at all costs.

Then there’s the fact that in this game, tanks usually do a lot of damage, too, and I’m not even talking specifics about a high energy Zarya or something - a good Reinhardt can do a lot of damage in some cases. But even not considering this, Mercy is a main healer, wich means she usually occupies the slot of the “strong healer” from the team, so healing the tanks will be your job most of the time. A Zenyatta or Lucio is better fit to heal the DPS because they have less HP, so the slow healing is not a big deal, and they could never keep a DVa or Reinhard alive efficiently.

All the other points are pretty much correct in my book.

Oh don’t get me wrong I agree tanks are needed and need healing. My point was instead of worrying about the tank at 75% health, worry about the dps at 20%. You know the tank won’t die that quick in the 2 sec it takes to heal the dps. I’m merely saying don’t tunnel vision tanks, save your dps friends too lol

I think it’d be nice to mention that the guardian angel hop extends the cooldown by about one second. That has gotten me killed a few times.

Oh yes, Mercy.

Let me just say this😌

I love Mercy, and I love this thread😬. Thanks for the tips. Mercy will always be enjoyable for me.

Me too and thanks

Oh yeah, sure, by all means don’t let anyone die if you can help it. If your tank is not under fire or has their shield up, for instance, heal who are in more risk of dying.

Warms my heart to see her being played again almost on a consistent basis, both in OWL and us non pro people lol

Maybe its my playstyle, but I really miss the old mercy.

I wasn’t one of those “hide and wait for the team to die, then 5 man rez” but a tempo rezer.

I still really want to play her that way. Zip around the map, healing and damage boosting who needs it and tempo rez the fallen DPS. Current mercy does not favor that playstyle (even though I’m fairly certain that’s what blizzard was trying to go for), and it’s pretty sad that I can’t play my best character anymore :frowning:

I won’y deny, the old style, while cheap, DID take a bit of a skill to pull off cause you couldn’t just dive in there, you had to wait for the golden moment. I do miss it, but on the same hand, I said i’m a mercy main, and a mercy main is what I’ll be till the end

Well, I didn’t care about the dive in and 5 man. I just want to be able to pick up 1 or 2 people. That’s how I played her.

Sit back, heal, buzz around with GA, and keep everyone topped off. As mercy is now, it doesn’t matter whether you have map awareness or not, you can’t really use rez outside of after a team fight. It’s too risky and leaves you too open otherwise.

I agree with the DPS healing wholeheartedly. Healing dps for a few seconds alone could save their lives, as many of them could die in one shot on any less than 50% health.

I like to heal McCree, junkrat, snipers, bastion first, and hope to god the rest uses self sustain abilities. I just make sure tanks are healthy enough to receive moderate damage. I also prioritize flankers since they’ve got places to be.

I’m actually starting to fall in love with roadhog mains because they’re the perfect package of self sustain and “get off my team, you tiny tracer.”

Make sure you don’t underestimate the GA slingshot. A well timed jump can send Mercy hurdling into the air and across the map. And consecutive slingshots during a team fight can be the difference between life and death as you’ll move so fast enemies can’t hit you.

GURL, let me tell you. I love having a roadhog on my team. If he can land those hooks, we are in business

He gives me so much ult charge without ever actually dying.

Just feels nice when they tither on 1 bar of health with a Tracer trying to kill them through vape + support healing. Only to get 180*ed by a hook with face full of lead, discord orb, and damage boost.

I hate Tracer lol, pain in the butt that one is
