So many Mercy mains are not so happy with Valkyrie. Personally, I don’t think it’s a weak ult, but I can understand that it doesn’t reward so much a good Mercy player more than a bad one. Sometimes Valkyrie could consist in just holding the m1 button without paying attention, or at most only just alternate healing and dmg boost and trying to stay alive and nothing more… Then, someone talks about reworking, someone else says that Mass Rez was better…
But I have a really simple idea that could make Valkyrie a higher skill ceiling ability that reward game sense and teamwork, and just with 2 little adjustments:
VALK HEALING
The healing of the main beam increased from 60 to 70
Secondary beams healing decreased from 60 to 55
(maybe it could also be 75 instead of 70 and 50 instead of 55)
VALK DAMAGE AMPLIFIED
Damage boost of the main beam increased from 30% to 40%
Secondary beams damage boost decreased from 30% to 25%
(Someone could think that 40% is a lot, but if you think about Orisa’s ult with a 50% dmg boost for EVERYONE and for 15 sec with infinite radius length, this Valk change can’t be too strong…)
With these changes you create differences, and with differences you create the possibilitly (and necessity) to prioritize.
Valkyrie would forces you to choose the first target of healing/dmg boost who will receive more, this will help Mercy at keeping alive a certain target that is receiving too much damage or helping another one who in that moment can deal a lot of damage with a higher dmg boost. A Mercy would be forced to continuously change the target, it would make possible to create combos and make more choices.
Also the simple change between healing and dmg boost would require a change of target since the teammate that requires healing couldn’t be the one who can deal more damage at the same time.
With these little changes Valkyrie would require a Mercy always keeping attention, looking at every single teammate distinguishing hero by hero, situation by situation.
A good Mercy with a good game sense will be rewarded, and a bad Mercy will get less benefits from Valkyrie.
What do you think guys and Mercy mains?
I love this idea, I’ve always actually wished for more decision making during the ultimate, and this seems like a nice change. I also like to pistol during Valk so it could help me get a critical teammate topped off faster so I can focus on getting an important pick (Widow/Ana/Zen).
Oh yeah I forgot about supercharger, I take back my concerns then - but anyways, valk having a stronger main beam with weaker secondary beams is something I’ve wanted for ages since it would fix my main issue with that ult: how it takes away a lot of decision making on Mercy’s part (who is a hero mostly based around quick decision making)
I suggested very early on in the whole rework drama that they should just combine the beams…that it would be way more impactful…frankly even 2 years later I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea (you can always adjust the numbers so that it feels right)
Thing is combining beams just takes away decision making.
Sure it’s interesting but the biggest complaint is that Valk takes away a lot of decision making from Mercy with the chain beams with no compensation with who you lock the main beam on.
Combined that’s even less you need to do because now you don’t need to choose chose who gets the beam with the chain but now you don’t need to choose between healing or boosting.
To be honest I just want a number shift. Increase main beam power, lower the duration, POSSIBLY reset cooldowns.
I just don’t use Valk like an ult because I really can’t get any value from it like that. I just use it as a basic ability on an inconsistent cooldown.
I mean as much as I love playing Mercy, it says a lot that I have popped Valk, attached to someone, and then used my wasd hand to get a drink or eat. (Granted, there are a lot of times I don’t do that or can’t afford to, but…)
I would love something that put more skill expression and decision making into her kit!
However the whole lack of impact/decision making argument whatever you want to call it, is getting old. Valk is very versatile, you don’t need to hover in the sky and hold down a button.
Like someone already said before, we’re talking about a ult, it has to be more impactful than an average ability, just think about Orisa’s ult: 50% more damage for EVERYONE for 15 sec (same duration of Valk). With Valk it would be only 40% for just 1 teammate and for the others only 25%… Besides, Orisa’s ult has an infinite range, while Valk only 10 m radius… It’s not the end of the world…
Many Mercy players are still complaining about Valkyrie… after 2 years… And other players keep saying that Mercy has one of the lowest skill ceiling in the game
Also Orisa’s SuperCharger radius is greater than Valk as well.
If you want to pin or add Orisa’s SuperCharger Damage boost to the OP as a point of comparison it might help to stop the “that’s too strong!!!” argument.
