I’ll keep this short.
If a “main” healer needs another main healer to have any value, then they are not a proficient main healer.
If she was intended to be the go-to for raw healing power, why does she need any other main healer in order to do her job?
Mercy/Zen is still pretty swanky, though. Just double up the damage boost. Yummy. But yeah, outside of that exception, I feel bad for her. Definitely a victim of perception.
She feels like a hybrid between main and off healer honestly, depending in team comp she can fulfill both roles… or be terrible at both. Unless the team is good at avoiding damage I mostly prefer playing her with Moira honestly.
She was intended to be the “go-to” back when there weren’t any other options for healing output. Now, she’s the go-to for simplicity.
Mercy is most efficiently run with another main healer. That doesn’t mean she can’t still be used as the primary main healer. It’s just not ideal.
Well said OP. She sadly isn’t really a main healer at the moment. She’s ironically more effective when played like an off-healer, generally needing a second main healer alongside. The other true main healers don’t need a second main healer and can generally be safely run with an off-healer. What Mercy is… she’s a mess.
She’s a main healer… that needs another main healer for her to be a main healer or off healer. like she “cleans up” the hp of the team: taking the “main healer” spot when there’s another main healer allows her partner support to focus on other things (moira on peeling and pressure, ana dps and deduffs, etc etc). of course we all know too that she can play off healer (seeing as much of her power stem from utility:rez and dmg boost).
a main healer usually needs an off healer not another main healer, she is in between tho
not to disagree with anything you said but i explained this thought process in the next sentence:
Let’s just hope after this ptr patch goes live the game is quite balanced and give space for blizz to start looking at her.
They won’t. They’ve chosen not to. They think she’s fine.
for me, Mercy is and always has been a main healer
We already know. She’s a mediocre off-tier but her stats are fine so there’s no real pint of changing her besides for design purposes.
Before anyone says anything, I indeed want Mercy to get changed because of her current design, which is a huge flop right now.
Mercy is a main healer only if you have around 200 hours on her and have enough map/skill knowledge to stay alive.
Mercy is definitely a main healer. She out sustains moira who eventually runs out of healing juice.
The reason why she shines with another main healer is her ability to enable and pocket a strong DPS, while the other main healer can look more after the tanks and keep them alive so mercy can focus on pocketing.
I do this a lot, and I hear crys from my other main healer when Im mercy to “Help with tanks,” (Which is what I tell them to do if they need more healing on tanks to keep them alive, reason being, its usually moira and they’re about out of heal juice lol )
Main healer is a made-up word used by people who wanted to categorize healers like they did tanks. We have had Lucio/Zen metas, we have had Brigg/Lucio, it doesnt matter and it works because the healers can work well in combination with each other and keep the team alive. The term main healer has zero meaning in Overwatch and never really has.
Because that’s what it took to balance Rez as a cooldown ability.
A good, reliable main healer with a rez on cooldown is too good not to have, so the devs scrapped the “reliable main healer part” to make room for e-rez.
The devs really need to revisit Mercy’s kit and admit that their little “make Mercy esports watchable” experiment didn’t work out. Turning rez into a cooldown ability was a dead end from the start.
I will disagree with you here.
A main healer is a term we used to describe a healer that can solo heal a team of 4 dps and 1 tank or 3 dps 2 tank , it was a popular term to use before the 2-2-2 role lock because it was extremely common to get this type of line up.
Zen cannot Solo Heal, therefore he is an offhealer.
Lucio cannot solo heal therefore he is an offhealer.
Brig cannot solo heal, therefore she is an offhealer.
Moira can solo heal, therefore Main Healer.
Mercy can Solo heal, therefore Main Healer.
Bap can solo heal, therefore, Main healer.
Ana can solo heal, therefore Main Healer.
Hope this clarifies things for you why we use this term to begin with.
she is kinda in the middle ground, she heal more than off healers but less than main healers
I would say Brig and Mercy is in the middle. Ana, Moira and Bap is main healer
Still strongly disagree with you here.
Mercy can solo heal a team where another support is doing almost nothing but DPS.
Therefore She is a Main Healer.
Again, Mercy’s true potential comes from pocketing a DPS with Damage boost, and keeping them alive.
Try this experiment.
-
Become good at not dying as a support.
-
Find a good Reaper Friend.
-
Pocket the heck out of this reaper friend and watch him destroy an entire team from the backline up to the frontline tanks.
Unless, the other support picks an offhealer, like Zen,lucio, brig
Then you can’t (and are forced to heal the team more than pocket )because the team lacks healing, and two off healers still isn’t enough healing, again therefore, clarifying that mercy is a Main Healer.
