It’s time to face reality, Mercy is the Hog of healers. I understand that you like Ana, or Zen, or Sombra, but if you want your team to have the best chance of winning, Mercy is non-negotiable. If your team doesn’t have a Mercy, and the other one does, just think of your team as missing a member. It’s really just that simple at this point.
For the record, I’m speaking from a PC standpoint here.

Swap each mention of Mercy with Ana, and this would be accurate.
Illary will usually get as much if not more healing than Mercy while doing an equal amount of damage. Yet Mercy is the necessity right?

The only decent thing Mercy brings is res. Damage boost is kinda eh, 5 people doing damage is going to be more effective than 4 people but one of them has a 25% boost. An Ana hitting anti and sleep off cooldown on the tank is going to be more effective than Mercy’s entire kit imho.

Please. Ana doesn’t have the mobility or kit to match even a competent Mercy. I get that there’s a large Ana fan club around here, but it’s really unwarranted if based on group utility. The requirement to be in Ana’s line of sight, for the player to have good aim, and Ana’s reload animations make her more of a limited healer than Mercy’s current iteration. A well placed Mercy rez can be a game changer, and her ult is much more useful. There’s just nothing in Ana’s kit to match these tools.
An Ana being attacked has to stop healing and defend herself. A Mercy being attacked can target a distant player and zip completely out of reach while continuing to heal.
To be fair, I have been in groups where Ana, as the sole healer, is able to carry a group, but the planets have to align. The team must have proficient players, and the Ana has to be good at repositioning, an exceedingly rare player.
Not going to lie, I actually see the team with the Mercy as the one missing a member unless the Mercy is good, of course. In which case, free win for that team.
I’m not talking about hps/dps here, just utility. Mercy is still better in terms of mobility, her ult, and her rez.
Might as well also mention that it’s only the case for pc. Mercy is still the dominant pick on console across all ranks.

Not bait. A team is more than a tank. If your Ana is concentrating on the tank, then that leaves the other members of the group looking for pots in the environment or running for their lives at low health.
Also using a term like “the prenerf Hog version of supports” is just asking for Mercy to be nerfed.
