Why has Mercy (a Swiss, blonde, blue eyed, caucasian woman) been getting so many East Asian themed skins?? Fortune, Zhuque, Seolbim & now in the OW2 reveal video we see yet another East Asian-esque type of skin for Mercy… Why is this a continued pattern for Mercy when Mei, an actual East Asian hero, hasn’t gotten a single East Asian themed skin in years?
Doesn’t make any sense to me as to why they keep creating these types of skins for Mercy and not other types of skins that would not only suit her better but also have a high demand from the community (Necromancer Mercy for example). I’m not saying Mercy shouldn’t have any Asian inspired skins as I’m all for culture appreciation, but 4 of them?
I totally agree! Us Mercy players have been extremely well fed when it comes to the amount of cosmetics we’ve received throughout the years (even tho we havent gotten a single highlight intro since 2017), however it still begs the question as to why she specifically keeps getting these type of Asian inspired skins and not ones that make more sense for her character?
exactly this! I’m very grateful to the art team and devs that design & implement these skins for us, I just wish they made more sense for the heroes they design them for, yknow?
Cause Mercy is Genji´s waifu, so I guess this is hint, that she moved to live with him and started to dress up like his culture xD
(honestly, I think it´s because she is typical anime, uwu, e - girl favourite hero). Also, Mei was among first heroes to have 2 new year legendaries so, it´s not that bad, as you are pointing out.
I think it also deals with she seems to have cosplay thing if you look at her overall skins. Her and widow I think. There was even a joke cartoon on youtube about it. Mercy likes to dress up.
If that were the case behind her Asian inspired skin designs don’t you think it’d be less traditional designs and more hyper cutesy, harujuku style designs?

Tbh I would rather see Mercy as blood elf or some snow angel - she is very easy going with any theme.
And for me, all skins were “new”, when I started to play in 2019 xD
Yes, the All-Stars of 2019 was his last good skin, I don’t understand why the quality of skins was lowered, when have we seen such good skins that they have been giving to other heroes the same last year…
