I’ll keep saying it. Just about every single other healer is better at hardpocketing a tank, so if you’re doing it instead of pocketing a DPS you’re wasting a whole support slot. Annoying. Mercy should be with a dps or not even picked.
Depends on the tank and comp honestly. If zarya or jq and the DPS are dive and you absolutely won’t switch then it can be less than complete throw to pocket the tank
ikr
when i carried the game, the mercy on my team just kept pocketing the tank only ,
dumb mercy players
except the tank is the most important role in the team. if the tank dies, you reset. and since the other healer never wants to heal blizzard has conditioned players to think you should be dpsing as a healer, the only person that CAN pocket is mercy.
oh, now you done it, you startled the silver mercy mains.
Though it took 14 days to cure xD
So the option the Mercy mains choose is to stay Mercy, deny their original purpose and just heal the tank anyway?
In that case they should just switch to a support with more utility to help the tank and the OP is correct
mercy is the most versatile in the game she literally works in every single comp
Lots of things work in lots of different situations, doesnt mean it’s optimal, its the refusal to switch I was highlighting, when they could be doing 4/5x more for the team in general if there is no hitscan to pocket
Calling mercy versatile is a stretch if there are no DPS that deal consistent damage you’re an accessory for the team doing minor healing and trying to fish for a rez.
That is not true. You can “pocket” or as people call it, “heal bot” with other supports. Life Weaver comes to mind.
That is the biggest lie you could ever tell yourself.
I get that you like mercy, she’s your main. Maybe the only hero you play. But the reality is most comps other supports are MUCH better.
As a Ball main, this is just a reality you have to accept. That your chosen hero just isn’t all that.
I play her a lot, and while it’s boring. Pocketing a tank does work, at least for me. Not saying I do that all the time and Ignore the rest of the team. But if it’s a choice between the tank dying and anyone else, I’ll pick anyone else every time, depending on the situation myself included.
How I look at it is if our tank dies before theirs, we’re not wining that fight. But other players don’t seem to understand that, so continue and feed instead of backing off and waiting for the tank to return.
There’s also a big problem with feeding in my games. Too many times the team will default to spawn camping until the enemy get ults and run over them.
If I pocket the tank, at least that’s two of us together. The tank is usually this big thing making a lot of noise. If a big thing making noise has a ton of healing nearby too, maybe even 1 other player will get the idea and stay nearby to get support as well. Then that’s 3 together. Unless the enemy makes a point of grouping up, in that situation we would usually have the upper hand, even if the rest of the team don’t understand why.
That seems to be how to win more games as a support, without going dps anyway. I know that’s not how you’re “supposed” to play. But when nobody else plays how you’re supposed to play, then really aren’t you the one doing it wrong at that point?
You know you’d climb a rank if you prioritise the DPS and only healed the tank when they go critical and it’s safe to do so.
You would also climb an additional rank if you tracked the value the team are getting and damage boosted the right targets.
That would take you to Diamond and above.
This isnt true at all and it 100% depends on the tanks
But if the tank is doing more damage than a dps then sorry my blue beam goes to them
No one gets annoyed at you if you pick Mercy, I have discovered.
Res them once, and that’s your endorsement sorted lol.
Fun fact - not all those res’s are appreciated. Can’t count the number of times a mercy has revived me in the middle of the enemy team serving to only use my vital life force to feed enemy ult charge and delay my respawn time.
It is this action from Mercy players that further fuels the theory that they are boosted, and that they haven’t learnt any game sense playing that hero. Because it is too easy to just switch your brain off and tape a mouse button down.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tank “hard pocketed” by a Mercy before. At least not to the extent of those e-girls who follow around a dps smurf the entire time and never even attempt to heal anyone else.
When I play tank I can do a lot when I get some Mercy heals and damage boost and occasional rez. Especially if I’m Zarya with high charge.
I think they should at least pay some attention to the tank, especially since there is only one and they are the strongest heroes in the game. So I guess I am a little confused on what exactly you consider to be a hard pocket of a tank.
That’s a self serving argument. The tank is going to have higher damage if theyre the only one being kept alive. Someone else said its only a reset when the tank dies.
If you have a critical tank and a critical dps that is still the reason you heal a dps first.
Crit for DPS is like 40hp for tank its 200 hp.
im not talking about healing them, i heal all equally prioritizing lower hp poll people before i top up tanks, but sorry sometimes dps are garbo and the tank is literally the only people doing damage,
