These characters are major outliers in this game right now and just don’t feel like they belong, mechanically speaking.
Mercy’s kit is just way too healing focused and lacks basic utility and damage playmaking potential for her team.
Sym’s kit, Imo, is arguably the worst designed kit in the entire game for a DPS. Half of her kit is support utility based and the rest of it is DPS, so it puts her in this weird position where you’d think she’d be like this hybrid jack of all trades where she could provide utility for her team while DPS’ing, but in reality she’s just a master of none who can’t even keep up with her own DPS counterparts.
To sum that up,
(Mercy needs more pew pew and utility.)
(Sym’s kit should be built around solely damage, not both support and damage.)
Mercy has a niche as the “tether healer” hero. That aspect of her kit is fine. It’s her self-defence that is an issue. She doesn’t need a massive change.
On the other hand, I can agree with Symmetra. Not only does she look… bland, she also lacks a lot of focus on her kit.
I have ideas for supports that grant shields rather than healing but if they reworked Symmetra back into that role then I’d be happy! Otherwise, I feel they need to lean more into her hardlight constructs.
Traps and slowing fields. She can still be a DPS even if she is giving speed boosts or jump pads to her team. Setting up damaging floor fields in certain areas or shields that explode when they shatter. That would be interesting. It would be a new gameplay style that isn’t just “gun at the enemy”.
Yeah, that might be her niche, but I still think she needs some sort of playmaking potential other than just healing. She needs to be able to make offensive plays. Imagine playing Mercy with awful teammates. You’re essentially just going to be healing the air with no other possible playmaking potential to win the game.
Well, I did have a funny idea about Mercy having a “knock-back” ability to save herself. Except this knock-back would also “pacify” targets, preventing them from attacking while also reducing the damage they take for a short period of time.
It would be a disengage ability for sure and there could be plays for saving allies from Reapers or Zarya ultimates.
All plays are plays though, so this’d also include times where she knocks all enemies away from the Junkrat’s Riptire.
You’re saying she shouldn’t be reworked because of how the devs reworked her poorly in the past. If her current state is poor because of her most current rework, then that should be fixed with another rework, don’t you think? Lmao
I’d argue Mercy is definitely an F-tier throwaway pick in almost any Elo she’s being played at. Maybe she’s situational at best, but even that’d be debatable. This is just my opinion, though.
Yeah, lol pocketing is where all her value derives from right now, but when there’s no one of value to pocket, then she inherently just has no value.
Why would you ever choose Mercy, who has no offensive capabilities with no basic utility outside of PB ig, over any other support who has those things built into their kit?
That’s why she’s an F-tier pick because unless she’s pocketing someone like a Widow Ashe, Pharah, etc, she’s basically providing nothing the other supports can’t already do with their kits.
they both already had reworks, symmetra DID used to be classified as a support, but you are right in thinking neither rework actually had a good outcome
That makes her situational, not bad nescessarily. I wish i could check this somehow, but I`m fairly positive that my winrate is higher with a Mercy on the team than without.
