Why is Mercy’s healing output so low? I love playing her, but I always feel so uncomfortable pairing up with Zenyatta and Lucio. She’s supposed to be a main healer…from what I understand, she was supposed to be the most main healer originally (just started playing in late 2018). I know she used to be OP with Rez, but it’s on a 30 second cool down now, and takes quite a while to pull off. It actually takes game sense and positioning skill to pull off now, and requires you to know when it’s a good or a bad call.
Oh, that’s easy; Mercy’s not allowed to be engaging or fun, they put that rule in place when they took out her ability to actually impact the sway of the fight with her abilities. She’s just a Healbot now, so expect medium-low heals and hope for the occasional res, and that’s about it.
Enjoy new Mercy, she’s boring AF!
Originally she was the only main healer. Nothing competed with her then.
Because : “She’S fInE oMg”.
The thing is the devs said that she’s supposed to be the goto raw healing heroe, but he’s off healer without a good defensive ult.
Why do you think they decided to go this route?
Because it’s impossible to interrupt, and is attached to hero with highest mobility among supports. Ease of timely application makes up for numbers. Especially now that healing nerfhammer swings.
but like, why does that mean that she can’t be a main healer now?
Probably because she is single target with little aim requirement for healing.
But tbh I think the real reason is because they’re trying to nerf hps as a whole. They nerfed Moira HPS and Baptiste’s (?? I think) now they are probably going for ana next… maybe.
She’s a main healer, they nerfed the healing geysers: Moira and Baptiste.
People gotta get used to lower healing.
I love Moira and Baps and im fine with a little healing nerf
Well, my recollection of events is thus ~ Mercy’s 5 man res removal was the FIRST real big shakeup in the game. We’d had a few characters get sort of changed around before, Bastion and Sym, but Mercy losing her ultimate really did feel like ‘oh wow, they could change ANYTHING’ all cards on the table kind of move.
And I think they did it honestly because a select few pro players like Profit and others were complaining about her ‘undoing their work’ back when OWL was launching, and I think they did it in order to appease them, and it started this weird snowball where Blizzard opened the door to the entire community and basically said:
“Anything here can be changed, if you dislike something, complain about it infinitely, because eventually you could develop it as a cult like mentality in the group as a whole and we WILL eventually change it or look at it or reassess it.”
And I’m not saying that’s necessarily like a bad thing, but I think that someone at Blizzard really needed to be … Mindful? Or aware? Of the game’s general tone or intention or feeling, and ~ it seems to me that they have lost that person or that person is no longer doing their job.
So many characters from OW’s inception had 10 years of thought put into them that it kind of stands to reason these newer characters are going to infinitely complicate and change things, because you can’t really plan for this.
They set themselves up for failure, TBH, by making it a game where they would add more heroes that they hadn’t yet planned or playtested with the heroes they started with.
It’s a catch 22, really, and it’s only exacerbated by the fact that the community now is both aware that they will change things if the community makes enough of a stink about it, and also by the fact that if they don’t make those changes NOW, like if they start sticking to their guns and saying ‘no, we’re the game devs, we know best shush’, people are going to get mad at them because before they DID ‘listen to them’ and their input.
That’s the problem with creative endeavors, you need to decide FROM THE OUTSET how much creative control you’re willing to allow the audience; is this your vision? Your creation? Or is it a community project, subject to change based on the whims of the masses?
Can’t be both.
Ok, so the other high-mobility, reliable healer is lucio. However, he’s an actual off-healer, with a defensive ultimate. Her ultimate doesn’t let her be an off-healer, but her healing output doesn’t let her be a main-healer.
Compensating for low healing is survivability and rez. How much healing is it worth to have Orisa back right now?
Lucio can’t switch between distant teammates as fast as Mercy can.
If Mercy’s healing is so low, explain to me how she had the third highest average healing in the game. Only few hundreds below pre-nerf Bapt and Moira. I didn’t check current numbers.
Even now decent Mercy’s are a godsend.
I had a Mercy who always knew when my @ss needed heal, gave her Shotcaller endorsement.
I’ll take your Orisa and raise you a dead flanking Rein with charged earthshatter.
yeweeeeeeeeeeeeeee i guiess rtjruthey = the devs = blizzard = tested it n they wer like no too high healing output, no
but listen*** - just dont play as her and her pick rate will go down and then they will have to buff her
It’s too low on a per-second basis. I would willing see her consistency of healing drop for some added healing power, if even temporarily (i.e. cooldown ability)
I think the heal nerf was necessary on Mercy originally to change player perspective and shed some light on the other supports, with that said it’s been a while since that has happened. She needs a buff to her healing. Even though she has uninterruptible healing, it’s not good enough to compete with the other supports or keep her tanks alive.
Ana needs to reload, but she has high heals, an AOE nade, and her ult heals for I believe 200HPS.
Moira has high heals (even at 65HPS) she is AOE, has a healing ball that still heals at 65HPS and is also AOE, her spray lingers that continues healing for 65HPS, and her ult heals 140HPS.
Bap is 50 healing per ball, but his balls are also AOE (so two targets 1 heal ball is 100 healing), his shift is AOE healing, and his amp heals double his projectiles.
Mercy heals singer target 50HPS and 60HPS in Valk AOE.
My point bringing this up is while the other main supports have to reload or have resource, they not only have other means of healing during reloads or resource, but also much higher heals than Mercy esp with AOE healing abilities. People keep acting like the Bap heal nerf is the same healing as Mercy as well, Mercy can single target heal and it’s 50HPS. Bap can AOE heal and throw more than 1 ball a second. He can hit 2 people for example and hit at least 2 balls per second, that’s 200 healing in the span of Mercy doing 50.
Mercy’s healing numbers are still high and on paper it looks fine. But in game, it doesn’t matter if you have high heals. If you can’t keep your tank up, well they die. It doesn’t matter if I outheal my Ana because Mercy has better survivability so I lived longer, Ana nading the tank is what kept the tank alive. All of the other main supports also contribute in damage and consistent utility. The only consistent utility Mercy has is damage boost and it’s supposed to make up for her lack of damage in game (which it really doesn’t if you compare Mercy damage boost stats to damage stats of other supports), Mercy can’t just rez a team mate, but Ana for example can just throw a nade mid fight.
I’m just saying when this game started she was one. As more main healers are added she slid down.
don’t forget her damage boost, for sniper and pharah pockets
the additional damage she contributes is quite effective when stacked with a zen or baptiste. I don’t think people realize how excited ranged dps players are when they see a mercy on their team instead of a lucio+moira
