Mei's design is weird imo

I know this sounds weird but her design doesn’t exactly scream Asian to me, especially the ow2 redesign.

I know she’s Chinese, but her skin tone, eyes, hair colour all scream caucasian to me. Like, I get being Asian is just a nationality and has nothing to do with how you look, but I’m curious if she was designed to look more Chinese or more caucasian.

Not to mention that her skins doesn’t scream Asian either. If anything, mercy is more Asian based on her wide collection of Asian themes skins.

You know that skins are irrelevant to all this, right?

It’s a video game with a cartoony look, why does it matter

I have no idea what you’re talking about, have you seen Asian animation? They all have those huge eyes.

I disapprove of this thread.

This will end well for sure.

follows the “cute” canon that many Asians portray in their media: big eyes for cartoonish characters, like kiriko and even d.va actually.

I don’t think Thai people are notoriously white-haired (lifeweaver), right? in any case, it is VERY WRONG to think that the purpose of Overwatch is to make representatives: it is essential first of all that they are “characters” in the video game, otherwise we can simply limit ourselves to playing the sims or any other video game where you can be everything you want to represent.

skins are an artistyic homage, not a cultural reflection of the character.

What about all those characters in anime and manga then.

Don’t create issues where there are none.

It was merely curiosity.

where u from? :smiling_imp:

Yours truly, not an Ai

OW is made with an anime aesthetic. You really can’t tell races apart in Anime unless they give you context.
