Mei is no longer fun to me

As a Mei main, I am extremely saddened by the changes they did to her. They removed the freeze from her main ability, in return for a little more damage. This to me, completely destroys the character, in terms of fun and theme.

I loved her unique playstyle of being a disruptor, able to stall, peel for teammates, and 1v1 some heroes through outplays. She can still do those things, but way less, and feels unplayable in certain situations where she used to thrive. Maybe it was not fun for others to play against, but I did not think it was over powered by any means.

They didn’t even give her anything new or fun to compensate, just more damage, which to me is so lame and boring. I was okay with not having the most damage playing her, because I was able to win with my team in other ways that felt more rewarding and fun.

I was never really big into most fps, but I liked Overwatch because of the creative kits they presented. Mei is my most played hero by far, and now she feels so stale to play. I’m not saying she is useless or worse, I’m saying she is no longer fun. I was excited to get back into the game with my friends, but after playing, I no longer have any interest playing Overwatch 2. Mei is dead, and so is Overwatch for me. </3

Please fix her

All I wanted to do was keep playin’ Mei, but as OW1 is no longer around that’s not an option. I refuse to spend a penny on this game until she see’s some kind of rework. Not only is she less fun to play, but Mei’s kit is objectively inferior to Sojourn’s kit for 1v1 damage potential, mobility, TTK (time-to-kill), AOE damage, and one-shot potential.

Compare the two projectile heros’ kits and damage potential on the Overwatch Fandom Wiki. This inequality is made worse given Mei’s delayed R-Click fire and Mei’s ultimate (which is easy to eat, escape, and clear status effect).

I hope you understand the consensus of the OW devs and the forums is that unique play styles are a bad thing. Bastion had both his transformations removed, sorry “reworked”, and now he’s just Soldier 76 with a bigger hurtbox, and people are okay with this rework. No one stopped to think about unique playstyles when they nerfed Torb turret into the ground and made him a discount Hanzo. You now feel the pain of Mercy and Symmetra mains. You need to understand that most people think aim skill and reaction skill is the only types of skill that exists in any videogame, and that’s not changing any time soon. If you don’t think generic FPS gameplay is the highest form of fun, then Overwatch has stopped caring about you. I’m calling it before it happens, Roadhog hook will lose it’s ability to pull sometime in OW 2’s lifetime.

Agree, Mei feels like a pushover with no threat when you go against her and you just bully her for free → a hero whose entire kit is projectile, has no mobility, poor damage and no more CC to protect herself cannot work for the OW2 direction. I have 600 hrs on Mei and had to give up and become tank player since those do her job so much better while actually being fun while playing Mei is a miserable experience.

She needs the nerfs reverted or given an entire tank rework that gives her new mechanics while bringing back her fluid kit from early OW years. I would prefer if they focus on giving her mechanics against mobility-creep so there is an answer to ball and heroes alike without having to nerf the mobility heroes. I also don’t get why they took away her iconic freeze when Ana, Sombra, Junkrat kept their CC and Doom got a whole rework to keep some of his, her kit is also buggy so they didn’t even playtest the changes. There are better ways to balance than taking things away.

TLDR: Freeze is Mei’s bread and butter like Rein’s shield or Hog’s hook and she can’t survive without that, the extra beam damage is useless (not the purpose of her gun) and her wall melts instantly so she needs help and addressing. Imagine if Rein had no shield and a ton of hammer damage (Mei right now) - he would suck.

So unfortunate. I really am gonna miss old Mei. I guess I will just continue to play other games, and hope someone comes out with a fps like OW1, and has a character that I enjoy.

She looked so fun in OW1. I never played her then. However, she’s been - by far - my favorite hero in OW2 and I’m so depressed that I can’t play her for a few weeks now.

She wasn’t even that great in OW1 tbh most the time I feel she’s stronger in OW2. The freeze effect only happened if people had no movement abilities and let you stroll up to them somehow. Even then reaper would’ve just killed them in smaller time. She was fun still tho. Her ult still freezes ppl and that’s the highest value she has always had anyway.

They destroyed everyones character by replacing unique abilities with just damage.
