Mei 6(66)th: How I learned to stop worrying and love the Devil Memes

Ni Hao! Welcome to The Month of Mei Season 2
Todei’s topic: Seitan

So, on this day last year I Made a thread about Where I thought the meme of Mei being the devil came from, This is Basically just a straight remake of that thread, with a few updates based on the replies it got.

It’s still one of the most popular memes in the Overwatch community to call Mei the devil. There are several reasons why this is the case.

Mei is presented as a bright and cheerful optimist who believes the world is worth saving and hates bullies.

She plays like a psychopath who takes delight in the suffering of her enemies, A lot of this has to do with the Devs attempts to inject her peppy personality into the game via Her voice lines and animations, which leads to things like her freezing you, carefully lining up her shot, and shooting an icicle through your eye socket, all while smiling and laughing.

Now let’s talk about the devil.
The bible describes Satan as a cunning liar. A malevolent entity which presents himself as a friend who wants you to be free and happy, while secretly plotting your destruction.

The parallels are pretty clear, And you know what? I’m OK with that.

Hail Seitan, let’s get that as a skin next Halloween.

I still firmly believe Mei is a evil mastermind.

There’s no way any normal person would be overly cheerful and happy after experiencing a Trauma Conga Line.

What’s wrong with being a Pollyanna?

Oh wait, we’ve argued enough today. I’ll leave that point for others to argue.

Mei is not evil just because she’s happy about causing damage. I’d be happy about shooting an icicle at Pat Sajak because he’s against living pay and higher education.
