{MEGATHREAD} Console Players Still Feeling like 2nd Class Citizens. [400 likes, 1500 responses]

Really? No dev response? Shameful. Just…shameful. I play on PC, and I think I’ve commented here (I can’t check because MOBILE SCROLLING AUUUUUGH) about the PC people who come in here and are like “lol buy a PC stop whining” should shut up because buying a PC isn’t gonna change anything.

So, again. It just makes no sense whatsoever that the devs haven’t commented here. It’s just adding to the facts that devs care less about console than stupid meme threads like “what hero likes cereal” and “will we get new skins??” Just…I can’t even put it into words, let me try to describe it in Fire Emblem terms.

-Severa’s paralogue being an escort mission
-Tiki’s paralogue being a defense mission
-“Stupid derpy villagers” (quote by BigKlingy) being stupid and derpy and appearing in waaaay too many paralogues (Severa’s because Holland, Brady’s, Gerome’s, Anna’s)
*Look all these up if you don’t know what I’m talking about. It’s worth it.

The devs not responding to this makes as much sense as all of those combines.

Im confused, do you like peplums ?

Peplums? I can’t answer your question if I don’t even know what you’re asking lol(you really are tired)

As in the game franchise most people(like myself, I know I’m uncultured) know about from these characters being in Smash Bros:

Roy, Marth, Girl Marth(Lucina), Ike, Robin, and Corrin

Other characters most people only know from Smash are:

Captain Falcon, Ness, Lucas, Nana&Popo(Ice Climbers), R. O. B.,Mr. Game&Watch, and the Duck Hunt Dog

So. There are side missions called paralogues where you recruit characters.
One character’s is an escort mission (yaaay). A few have to deal with stupid NPC AI. Both of those are rage inducing just like Blizzard not commenting on this post.

So kind of like whenever someone follows behind you in Pokémon, making every wild battle a double battle, except Pokémon makes it about 50 times better I presume?

Hi friends!! First time posting in this thread. Nice to see some fellow console bretheran fighting the good fight. I play on xbox and pc but man, after using a controller since I was 3 with the original Nintendo in the 80s Im so used to it

Great thread, so many differences between console and pc that at least needs to be addressed.

i know i am merely a pc ovw player and i have no voice but i was wondering about a few things…

  1. why do you want a text chat while you want to ban kbm altogether? i mean i keep seeing people here who just say “i will connect usb kb, problem solved :v:️“ like if you ban kbm you won’t be able to use it but okay and you will be forced to use the on screen keyboard. trust me it’s not something you should be using during a match as it’s going you to take AGES to write anything.
  2. why do you keep insisting no issues involve sony/microsoft. some of the issues involve sony/ms even delayed patches. the companies DO verify every patch and update what was stated a few times on twitter when users of one of the consoles (i don’t remember which one, because it was about a year ago) were upset they still wait for update while pc and the other console had it already and it was stated back then they could do nothing about it as it was still pending/under validation by the respective console company.
even the lack of certain languages supported on pc can have something to do with the respective companies or some sort of regional restrictions (before you jump on me saying ps4/xone has no region lock it has nothing to do with that as games editions vary across the regions anyways). let me explain. i live in poland and i only get to play a console game in polish is when i buy it from an official polish distribution with a huge “in polish” sticker on it. The game will support polish (either voices + texts or only texts) and some standard european languages (english, german, french, eventually spanish or/and italian). if i buy the exactly same game in germany, i will have a copy with all the above languages except polish (sometimes there is a chance for polish subs in non-polish distribution game) , even if the game is was fully produced and published by sony. So it has something to do with regions/licenses/sony&ms. leaving the options to switch language and nothing happen in games is rather unprofessional if you ask me.
  3. why are you upset you don’t have as many options as pc has keybinding wise. shouldn’t that be obvious controllers have really limited amount of buttons comparing to real keyboard so i’m assuming blizzard had to somewhat choose what additional thing should be bindable. you also need to get some agreement in that matter before going to blizz with that as in span of 20 replies i’ve seen people complaining there soon wont be any more buttons for additional stuff and those who what to be able to bind multiple keys to one ability.
  4. why do you want access to ptr pc? it contradicts an entire idea of pc being different from console. it would give you no better insight than watching a video in yt, that’s at least how i feel considering i played some games on both pc and ps4. however the console ptr would be a good thing if… they actually listened to feedback. don’t get me wrong i am in no mean implying your feedback should be ignored but they don’t even care about pc to pc feedback. There are so many bugs addressed for both ptr and live and the majority of ptr bugs unfortunately gets to live. so if they don’t care about their go-to platform they won’t care about consoles either. also don’t be upset when consoles don’t get a patch pc gets. not every issue/bug is shared between platforms so it’s obvious they won’t give you a placebo patch just so you can feel loved. if you feel like the issues are shared yet you didn’t get a fix then yes you should be upset and complain.

other than that most of your arguments kind of make sense and i was actually surprised some things are not implemented on console and i do agree some slight balance changes should be made (not like crazy one as it’s still the same game so making it into two (or three) separate games where everything is different is kind of… bad idea).

Thanks for stopping by. Will try to answer you questions as best I can.

  1. We primarily want text chat for prematch. If someone is in the wrong voice channel, we have no way of asking them to join. Additionally, ther are other ways to type on console besides on screen keyboard or usb keyboard. PSN has an app allowing you to type with your phone, and there are mini keyboard that attach to controllers.
  2. I won’t reharp on this too much, as there are many entries in this thread detailing how the certification process isn’t as arduous as its portrayed, and how both Sony and MS have been extra accommodating for OW.
  3. Our concern here is how the controller input options are being ignored and not properly utilized. Controller buttons have more sensitivity than a keyboard, and you can change the function that the button performs based on how long or how strongly the button is pressed. Addiotionally, the combination button press for functions is a console staple that isn’t used here.

Also, specifically to the PS4, there’s a touchpad that can perform different functions depending on how it’s swiped. Not to mention 2 buttons that I’d be willing to wager that Blizzard doesn’t know about on every PS4 controller.

  1. We don’t want to be on the PC PTR. We want a console version, which has been done repeatedly for the past decade by other companies. Why Blizzard can’t is a mystery. It would help head off issues like the pending Symmetra teleporter debacle.

Hope that helps!

Actually, no. You escort someone who wants to find their friend through a bunch of really powerful enemies that will shred the escorted if given the chance.

Holy hell I missed a lot today, we are now just over 830 replies and still nothing? Disgraceful

I’ll respond to them to the best of my abilities, in the order you presented them in your post.

  1. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this specific bit somewhere on the forums; anyways, keyboards used for text chat are different than the keyboards that are used for advantage in conjunction with a mouse. Plus, I’ll use the report system on PS4 as an example here (though I’m sure you can say the same thing for XB1 as well). Say you need to report somebody for inactivity. When you’re in the window of the Report System that says to explain what happened, pressing X (or A on XB1) will open up the Console’s keyboard interface. You CAN then plug in a USB Keyboard to type that message out a lot faster. As an alternative as well for those who don’t have such, they can also buy a chatpad, which is a keyboard attachment for the controller, for $30 at most. From there, the same story applies as if you were using a USB Keyboard. The key is that it opens the Console’s Keyboard interface, which you’d use to type said message.

  2. Some issues are Sony/MS; I won’t deny you there. The bulk of this and why it’s a lot more on Blizzard though is because of the overwhelming amount of time that has passed. I will be frank though and say that the languages issue might not be what you think. Take note that I can play Console-watch on my NA PS4 in Japanese, an Asian language, without any issues at all. Besides which, 7th Generation Console Games were able to implement the ability to change the language in-game, even despite the ability to change System Language. I can understand where you’re coming from on this, don’t get me wrong. The problem is that it means that the amount of people that are going to be playing Console-watch with those more restrictive languages is going to be next to none. The last bit with this is that Sony and Microsoft both offer same day certification passes.

  3. The issue isn’t so much that; the issue on it is that they were restricting things, that were already on PC, that also worked just fine on PC, even if you were using a Controller. Given that I did this exact thing for testing purposes, I would know. Take the communication wheel for example. Before the bindings for it were implemented, we had literally no way to say things, such as “Attack/Defend the Objective!”, “Come to me for healing!”, etc., on Console. Why was this? It was because the communication wheel bindings were not implemented to Console. Literally all it was doing was unnecessarily restricting things further for Console. It may very well have been because of me that those Communication Wheel Bindings were implemented to the Consoles in the first place (read the italics within this link). The same thing though can be said for quite a few other controls. Examples include Voice Chat - Push to Talk, Toggle UI, and even one that isn’t implemented to Consoles right now, which is Hold to Crossfade for Lucio (which can be set via one of the switches for Lucio’s Controls specifically; and this one doesn’t even require a binding).

  4. I wouldn’t look to me specifically on this, because I very much can access the PTR on PC. Reasons though would include helping to test out things such as reworked heroes, new balance, and potentially even nail some other bugs. My personal opinion on this though would be instead just giving a PTR on Console. Why give some form of PTR to Console? Well, I kind of went in-depth on this in another thread. Both Sony and Microsoft have been very flexible with Blizzard, and Jeff has even admitted to this himself as well as the fact that this is something that can be done. Don’t forget as well that Sony and Microsoft both offer same-day certification passes. And the pros to a Console PTR would definitely outweigh the cons. Examples, it would help the Overwatch Team develop better connections with their Console Players, it would better help them get PTR Feedback from us on Console, and it would help them nail down any potential Console-specific bugs, among others. Sure you can argue that both Sony and Microsoft charge for patch updates. However, that’s only if certification fails multiple times.

All things said, I do definitely where some of your points come from. I also want to thank you for taking the time to read this thread, even if you don’t agree with some of these points. I likewise can understand that this thread can have some controversy; but taking the time to read this thread tells me that you do care, even if just to an extent. Not to mention, being able to discuss things without the disparaging of this thread is definitely something that I enjoy being able to answer.

There are external keyboard attachments you can buy separately for a controller that don’t have a mouse, but even that isn’t supported for key-bindings or anything

Yes there is, think of it like a trackpad(or whatever it’s called) on a laptop

Ah… like I said, I only know bout Fire Emblem through Smash Bros, although I do know from the Smash costumes that friendly units are green, enemy units are red, and NPC units are yellow

I’ll take number 840! Well at least gladiators won vs nyxl… so one good thing happened recently I guess… In the meantime i’ve been working on a guide for console aim settings. I just really wish they would improve on it…

Let’s keep this at the top as well.

Transparency is necessary for us too.

I just want to say that I may have switched to PC for now after playing OW on Playstation 4 since launch - but I still want improvements to be made for it.

When the endorsement system goes live I think that will help tremendously with pushing people to voicechat on console, and just cooperate better in general - That will be a nice improvement, but they shouldn’t stop there.

The console experience is not as good as it could be, and if the OW team does not have dedicated internal roles to oversee the console experiences, features, and hero balance it’s sorely needed. Right now console most certainly feels like an afterthought, and it universally pains players who are just as into the game as those on PC, but are in no position to switch.

…And they decided to lock the other thread.

A bit hypocritical if I say so myself, considering I’ve broken CoC on at least 2 separate occasions in this thread, and neither post had action taken against it at all. This is even factoring how direct of an approach I took in said posts in this thread…

I just saw! I was about to come over and comment on your ‘heartfelt’ topic…
What the actual gibberish?! What is their reason for closing of that topic?! Because you imply you’re directly talking to the devs?!

This forum is getting more ridiculous by zhe day. If they were as rigorous in actually listening and communucating with us as they were in banning and closing off topics foe the most absurd reasons, I would actuwlly be playing the game instead of sitting on rhe forums!!
