Me and my wife suddenly invisible to each other in game

Suddenly a few weeks ago me and my wife logged on for one of our standard nights playing together, and discovered first we got no notifications of each other logging on, then we realised we no longer appeared in each other’s friends lists, it was a real struggle to work out how to group up but then found each other via the ‘recent players’ list and could send an invite from there.

Odd, but whatever, just re-friend, right? Nope, doesn’t work, we can both send each other friend requests (so the system definately thinks we are not friends or the option wouldn’t be there, also backed up by the fact we can endorse each other, which friends can’t do) but neither of us receives the request, we also both see the option to block each other, so it doesn’t seem to be that we’ve blocked one another, or surely the block option wouldn’t be there?

It’s bewildering, both of us can interact with the rest of our friends list perfectly normally (including both chat to the same friend, who seems us both normally, online, in game etc), so it doesn’t seem to be that one of our accounts has some sort of block on it, everything is otherwise perfectly fine for both of us, except we both vanished from each other’s friend list and friend requests go nowhere when we try and send them.

Hey Husbando,

There were some issues that have been fixed up. If you and your wife are still having trouble I recommend doing a full uninstall/reinstall of the launcher.

Perform Steps 1-5 of [this article:](https://battle.net/support/article/30304?utm_source=internal-TechForum&utm_medium=posting&utm_campaign=BlizzardCS&utm_content=solution)
Do not reinstall yet but follow these additional steps:
        1. Open file explorer/file manager
        2. Type the following into the address bar (not the search bar): %APPDATA%
        3. Delete the Bnet and blizzard folders inside the appdata folder if they exist.
        4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with %LOCALAPPDATA% and %TEMP%
        5. Empty the recycle bin.
[Now go ahead and reinstall the launcher.]( https://www.blizzard.com/en-us/apps/battle.net/desktop)

Thank you very much for the reply.

I didn’t think this would help as we were both experiencing the same problem, if the issue was a client issue then I would expect one of us to see the other still in friends but not vice-versa.

But, in order that we can progress this issue, I did as you requested and reinstalled battle.net on both our PCs, as expected this has not changed anything.

If, regarding the ‘issues’ that you mention you are talking about the fact that for a while there were no friend activity notifications, then yes we experienced that issue also, neither of us were receiving any friend activity messages in-game, including about each other. However we were still able to interact normally with each other as friends during that time.

it was about a week ago that this new problem started, it may be that the timing does match when the notifications issue was resolved.

EDIT to add:

humm, while playing around trying to figure this out I just found something odd.

If I try and send her a friend request, I get an error saying I already have a pending friend request (I was able to send a request once a few days ago when we were first trying to figure this out) - FYI she does not show any pending requests.

if she tries to send me a friend request, she gets an error saying we are already friends (but I’m not in her friends list).

So it looks to me like our friend status has gotten desynced, my account thinks we aren’t friends while hers does (but for some reason doesn’t list me)

Hey there!

Does this happen only in-game or also in the desktop app? Have we already tried removing her as a friend and re-adding her? Was the invite sent via battletag (name#1234) or email?

As a note Blizzard employees cannot view friends lists of players to protect user privacy.

Let us know how things go. Cheers!

In both the app and in-game.

We can’t remove each other as friends because we don’t appear in each other’s friends lists, and I don’t know of any way to remove a friend other than through the friend list. If I select the dropdown next to her name in a bnet chat window the only option there is to add as a friend, not to remove.

You can kinda ignore the part I wrote before about the errors we get being different to each other, as I found that this was caused by the different methods of friend request, to be clear:

If either of us sends a friend requesting using battletag we get an error saying we are already friends.
If either of us sends a friend request using realID we can successfully send the request, however the other person does not receive it, further attempts to send another friend request result in the error saying there is already a pending request, unless we go into pending requests and remove it

Neither of us appear in each other’s friends list either in the app or in the game, we get no activity notifications which we used to get, and we still get for other friends. In Overwatch we are are able to endorse each other which friends are not able to do.

EDIT TO ADD:

So we discovered that the wierdness with sending realID friend requests was because my wife had RealID disabled, we enabled it and I was then able to send her a friend request using RealID and she received it!!! We eagerly accepted it, and it said we were now friends!! But we still don’t appear in the friends list in app or in game, the result is still exactly as it was before, just now with one small difference that we both get the error that we are already friends now when trying to send both a battletag AND a realID friend request

EDIT 2:

You mentioned email friend request, so I tried that too. However when trying to send a friend request to the email address associated with each other’s accounts we get the same message that we are already friends.

Thanks for following up with me! We may need to look deeper into this in a more one-on-one setting. Please submit a ticket with a link to this forums thread included so the agent has the info we went over already.

Cheers!
